After a;most seven years in machine shop jail my 478 Hemi engine is finally done and I am going to put it in a car. Not the intended car,but the surrogate! When I bought this engine as a Mopar Performance 472 Hemi crate engine,I had intended to put it in my 70 Charger R/T SE I have had since 1981. Then I bought a Daytona Charger Stock Car,and decided to put it in there after finding another Hemi engine. After deciding the Daytona Stock Car wasn't going to be practical on the street,I went back to plan A and decided to put it in my 70 Charger from 1981. Well after years of dealing with the scamdemic, trying to get the engine done,I never got around to getting the car ready for the engine. As everyone on here knows,Mopar Performance crate engines had issues, this was my reasoning for having the engine gone through as well as upgrading the horsepower from 525 to the current 631.5 it makes now. The 70 Charger needs a good amount of work to be prepared to handle this engine, frame connectors, body and paint work etc. So I decided to put it in the surrogate until the other car is ready! I have a painted 71 Dodge Charger roller in Citron Yellow with frame connectors and the springs already moved inboard. The current plan is to put the Hemi in this car, scavenge the necessary pieces from two other projects and have a running Hemi Charger by spring! This will give me time to get the other car ready,as well as getting the 71 Charger roller roadworthy ready for it's driveline. The plan is a weekend engine/trans swap once the other car is ready! I don't want a fresh Hemi engine sitting for a year or so while I get the 70 Charger ready. I'm going to say something unheard of in the Mopar world......my gen 2 Hemi came in under budget!

The 478 Cube Hemi with FiTech dual quad fuel injection. The engine builder says it will make a solid 650 horsepower at 7000 RPM once it has completely broken in. It made 631.5 @ 6800 RPM last Saturday.

Since the plan is to have the 71 on the road by the spring. Will we see it at Carlisle in July?

The 70 Charger R/T SE is a 4 speed car with a 4.10 Dana 60 rear axle. The 71 is setup for a 4 speed,and currently has an 8 3/4,but I have a Dana 60 with 3.54 gears I can put in it.

That would be great! I hope I can pull it off! I am excited to get my Hemi back! I bought the engine in 2005,and finally heard it run for the first time last weekend.

I put an AMD rear quarter panel on the drivers side of the 70 Charger, and the other side is NOS,I am not happy with the fitment of the AMD quarter panel,so I bought another NOS rear quarter panel,so I have to change that out too. Pics aren't loading correctly,Sorry!

ok .... I just was wondering because there's no shop equipment or in work photos, so I thought it was a storage garage.

that 71 charger is cool in that color. any up for sale?

You’ve got quite the collection packed in there. Looks good. As a side note, you don’t typically think of Rhode Island as having much farm land, but I see a grain trailer and what looks like a Kinze planter?

The rear part of the building is car storage, the front part of the building is the shop area. The shop area has a two post asymmetrical lift,a scissor lift, two tool boxes, two tire machines a wheel balancer,a glass bead cabinet, a welder, plasma cutter, jack's and other assorted tools.

The pictures of the car with the grain trailer were taken at the person's place that I bought the car from.
