Hello

I want to change the single Master Brake cylinder in my 62 Dodge Dart, to Dual Master Cylinder.
Which one will fit best??
I did this before, on a 65 Plym and used a Master Cyl. of a 67 Dart. Was this only luck, or will they all fit the same and what's def. the best thing??

(I think I don't have to say, but the Dart got 10" drums all around)

Get a later model one from a truck or rwd car like a Diplomat.

They're two bolt m/c's but AREngineering sells the adapter for our cars through places like Mancini Racing.

Ehrenberg from Mopar Action had the whole setup for sale a few months ago on the moparts.com classifieds too.

Very easy swap.

So, does the proprtioning valve have to be changed as well?

If you're still running drum brakes all around then there is no proportioning valve, just a splitter. Use a union to connect to your rear system and plug that hole in the splitter. Now the splitter just becomes a T to your front system. Make sure that you get a master for a drum brake car. I recommend finding one for a vehicle that has the same size drums as yours, ask your parts guy.

I took one from a 69 Valiant (because I had it) and put it on my 66 Belvedere. The only issue I had was the brake light switch needed to be moved a bit. The cylinder bore was 1/16" smaller than the single MS so my pedal travel was a bit more.

i like rich ehrenberg's units with the 4 hole adapter plate. its like $65.00
google him.

Thank you very much!!!
That was really helpfull!!!
:)

What I have on my 62' (drums all around) is an OEM from a 69 Belvedere and it works fine. The rear runs off the front resevoir - front off the rear. No prrportioning valve.
The OEM cross references to a Dorman M71258 (Summit #DHB-M71258) and Wagner Lockheed 71258-EL-13-780.

@Stumper
Thank you, That's great!!
I have to get a second one, 'cause a friend with a 63 Polara want's me to do the same swap!!

Thank you!!!

I`m gonna do it to my 63. I am using a 68 one that still has a bolt to get the cap off like it did in 1963. That is if no one buys it soon.

Hi ,im working on the same project. My 65 Belvedere has power asist drum brakes .single master cylinder .I want to change it to a dual .I have a master from a 69 dart which had drum power asist brakes,(dual)Can i make this work for my car.One more question.if you dont use a proportioning valve were is the benefit ,if you blow a line wont you lose all the brake fluid ,im not sure on this, any help will be appreciated .
Thanks
Paul

Here is the one I run with. It gives me a good firm peddle and the brakes seem to pull straight. Actual stopping ability still sucks though, with the drum brakes and a motor that idles at 1500 rpm.... :)

What brand of linings are you using on it?

To be honest ,i really dont know ,they were on the car when i bought it .Id like to have disc brakes one day ,there is a complete setup on ebay $500.00 ,it includes everything even a new booster.

You can piece together a pretty cheap disc setup if you're willing to do some hunting.

A-body disc frontends are a bolt in swap.

I went with the Wilwood setup. It's really light with aluminum hubs and it bolts to the drum spindle. Ran me right at $680.00 for hubs, rotors, calipers, pads, adapters and bolts.

THE cheapest disc setup is the scarebird. Basically they just sell you caliper brackets and a list of parts (GM) available at any parts store. You can do four wheel disc for around $600 going that way

Thanks for the help ,to close to Chritmas to do it now ,but in the future.$600 is a good deal
