my 73 ssb was built july 73 and does not have the indicators you are talking about

The one you have in yours is correct for 71-72.
The one's for 73-74 were slightly different.
Beside the headlight and wiper switch there was a small indicator.

I originally bought one with the indicators for my 71 but was told it was for the later 73-74 model. I sold it and found a radio delete one for my 71.

I believe it's a 74 thing, however there were several mid-year changes in 73...

My 73 also does not have the indicators, and it has a scheduled production date of 3/27/73.

love them maiden voyages! i remember mine all too well in 2008. was a little impatient and drove the ol gal without the windshield and sat on an overturned 5 gallon paint bucket!

Agreed, I also believe it may only be a 74 thing. And I have never seen them on a 73 or earlier.
