Suggestion for Headers

I have to agree with demonram, Hooker headers are absolute garbage. I have them on my 73 Charger with a 440 and they fit horrible. It takes so much work to get them on it's horrible. I have ceramic coated ones and they look terrible now from making them fit into place. Wouldn't recommend them even if they were free..

I have Thorley on my 68 charger 383 indy heads and they fit great bolted right in didn't have ding in any tubes or anything no clearance issues anywhere and Thorley has B and RB headers cause of the difference in blocks most place sell you a set for a rb when your order for a big block mopar for me it was either Thorley or TTI I went with the Thorley for the 300.00 cheaper I think I still paid low $500 for them

I have a set of these http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hok-5903hkr hooker headers on my 1972 RR with a 440. I do have the edelbrock heads with the angled spark plugs. I also have a mini starter.

I will say....., I had to make two dents for two of the angled spark plugs to clear. I made one dent for the header to clear the top of the steering gear..... and also made bracket to pull the headers in slightly to make sure there was plenty of clearance between the headers and the torsion bars.. I stripped them and coated them with VHT header paint.

Would I have rather installed the TTI's or another $800 header that fit perfectly??? Heck yes!! But do to the fact I was way over budget on my engine build... I had no choice but to skimp on the headers to save $400+ dollars.

One thing I will say... The hooker headers do have excellent room around the starter.. ..I can easily remove the mini starter without removing or even loosening the header on the drivers side.

So if money is tight, And you have a good hammer and an even better sense of humor.. lol!!!,, the hookers headers will work... !!

One thing that I have discovered is both Jeg's and Summit's 1 7/8" ceramic headers are either made by Hooker or someone is using Hookers 5903-1HKR design. The only difference I found is that Hooker uses 16 gauge and J/S uses 18 gauge. A couple of you guys said that support from Hooker was almost zero so I decided to call Jegs and ask them about fitment and returns. No one could answer my question about fitment but did strongly state that if they don't fit, return them (they would allow a few scratches just don't beat them up). So that makes things pretty simple for me, if I decide to install them and they need minor adjustment, I'll put my bride in my pocket, as I can live with a couple of dings or a simple bracket to keep several hundred dollars in my wallet.
