Around 1979 while riding with my dad in our 74 dodge power wagon we passed by an old car for sale at the end of a farm road. It's front end intrigued me and I asked my dad what it was. Well he entertained me and stopped and let me look at it. It was a baby blue 62 plymouth sport fury. I remember thinking it was SO ugly but I liked it. Well this year after many years I finally purchased a 62 sport to satisfy my original desire but the thought of that original never left me.

Then it happened, as I was looking for parts for my current 62, I found out that a buddy had a complete sport fury he had bought years ago and wasn't doing anything with now. As conversation progressed I told him about my story of falling in love with 62's and how wondered where that car was now. Did you say baby blue? He asked me, yes why? Where was car? Next words out of his mouth were I think I own that car. Turns out my buddy who I've know for over 20 yrs and lives about 300 miles away had purchased the very one 62 sport fury that started my love for early Mopars...or cars in general and I had never known it.

Next weekend I go pick up the car that started it all. Seems now I am destined to have two 62 sport fury's, the one I finally bought to satisfy my desire and the one that started the fire. image.jpg

That's a cool story. You are lucky to find a piece of your own Mopar history like that. I can think of a few cars I would like but never considered ever finding them! Ugly? Hell ya! VERY cool? Even more Hell ya! What are you thinking of doing to / with it?

Question is - my curiosity - what are you going to do with it? Leave it original, restore it, make it a mean street machine? Lots of options.

Its a pretty cool story that you got the actual car of your childhood dreams. I'd be interested in some thoughts of what your plans are.

congrats bro!

Thats a great story and I am glad to hear you got that car as I bet you thought you would never see that baby blue 62 again ? Good for you. I guess my question is also what are your plans with both of them. Ron

Thanks guys, I honestly never thought I'd ever see ole blue again, had just become a part of my Mopar history and a story I've told many times about the memory of the first car I ever remember liking. Kinda surreal really.
Right now I plan to keep them both, I want to build my Texas car into mean Street/strip car done max wedge style. As for "Blue"? Not sure yet. She will get fixed up for street but honestly not sure past that yet. I will say I've never been a big fan of the color even then. When get back here next weekend I'll really start to assess what routes to go. Can say though that she is now part of the family and will taken care of properly :) my 11 yr old has already put dibs on her

great story and a nice looking car ,I spy a 70 sporting green in the back ground also :hello2:

I love hearing stories like yours, that car was meant to be owned by you at some point in it's life.
62's are really cool especially when modified into a really hot street/strip car.

Good luck with it!

Thumbs up, what a story!
I love those 62 Furys......have fun restoring her.

Greetings from Germany,

Dan

I also like the 62's because of the oddball styling. Cool story.

Cool im the 3rd and 5th owner of my 67 coronet... they know where home is but sometimes you let the dog out they take off and eventually come back tired and hungry....

Congrats on the find! Looks to be pretty solid.

What engines are you dealing with between the two cars?

I have a rebuilt 440 pushbutton combo ready for one, the baby blue car is said to have a 451 stroker in it but not sure,I have a 11:1 426 wedge I've been building with crossram soooo been thinking may pull 426 decals and put 413 on.

That would make a bad *** 413! You'll have to find four bolt valve covers. Have fun...

She's finally home. Has a 452 stroker in it and bunch of old school race items on it. Exhaust dumps, really low geared rear, really stout rear springs and more. Title is from 1976 and originally belonged to a Ray Kettles in Sikeston MO. Quick web search shows he was a local racer and longtime Mopar guy down there. Anyone know this car or the man? Car has some interesting things about it that I'm going to have to try and research.

Hi mate. I bet you're in heaven right now.

If I were you, I would leave the paint exactly as is. A preserved piece of history. Some call it patina, I call it battle scars.

Great car, I'd love to see more detailed pics.

Thanks guys. Have been in contact with original owners family. What a great bunch of people too. Some of things about car weren't as reported to last buyer namely engine built and rear gearing but found out so much more about car, man behind it and families love for this car. More to come.
