73 lemon twist roadrunner

Slow and easy, patience and time here, all is well with Lemon twist! :)

Lol thanks I kinda needed that Ron. I took a couple days off from the car so I didn't put a cage in it and dirt track it lol. But I got more of the underside cleaned and primed today. Also sand and primed then wet sanded the hood pieces(don't know the n real name) they are ready for first paint then more wet sanding then clear then more wet sanding and finally buff. The inserts for them I painted gloss black but I sanded them back down so I could paint them satin black I think they will look better. I took the center out of the steering wheel and cleaned it up repainted the silver trimming. Also cleaned all the horn contacts and tested to make sure they worked.the center looks so good the roadrunner in the wheel center is a lil old looking but it's original and all there so it will stay.the 2 pictures of the driver side I have put up before but this is a before and during pics

I'm back yet again, I had a bad time last year trying to afford new parts for the bitterbird. And progress being so slow wasn't making things any better. But since then I have gotten all the things I needed to finish the car off, save for some little stuff. But I have every suspension bushing in red prothane. I have everything I needed for inside(except seats) I still have the old ones but they are ripped pretty bad. So since last year I have moved to a bigger place and had to move the bitterbird, when it was being loaded I took note of how nice the underside of the car was. It's in great condition and I can't let it sit anymore so back to it full steam ahead. I now have a plan of attack and a realistic budget. 2things I didn't have before I was working on whatever I wanted to and not really getting anything finished. I was also buying parts I already had and spending money I didn't need to. All that has now changed I am following my plan to the letter. I'm happy to be back to working on the bitter bird again and hope to have it running stoping and moving in a couple weeks. Then I'm just gonna drive it ,rust holes n all at least I'll get to out some miles on her. Not really caring about it having holes and being primer gray I just wanna drive it lol. Anyway good to be back and next time I'll have some car **** for y'all !

nothing wrong with grey primer.....at least we can drive them. I was planning on color this year, but having to get a new car probably shot that down for a while.

I'm getting used too looking at the car primer grey lol but yes I'll be happy when I'm driving my bitterbird. Been too cold lately to do anything on the car besides finally remove the old dart intake and carb I had on it just to run. Cleaned and painted my intake. I used high temp silver paint with high temp clear I love the look always have ,used it on my stock cars for years it's a decent finish that will last forever, even after power washing it after a weekend if getting dirty on the track.i still need to clean my carb and linkage. I cleaned and painted the kick down and throttle linkage it looks great next to the intake.hope to get them on the car tomorrow. Also got the lil decals on my gauges I wanted to do. Working on restoring my console, the big problem I'm having is the too has a chip and scratch in the Formica type stuff, I don't have the money for a whole new one so I'm going to do some research on if I can buy a small patch. Also picked up a set of factory style positive and negative cables. And every build the car will need. But back to the bitter upstate ny cold lol. Here's some pics for now. Also notice the yellow vacuum lines got a complete set.

that intake is a beauty! If I ever pull mine off, that's what I'll do.

Thanks guys. It's a slow process.but the end is near I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I don't hear a train lol. Getting the intake n both valve covers on was a Big step in the right direction, and the master cylinder on means it will be stopping on it's own soon. I'm kinda glad we had all winter for a break ,I'm attacking the to do list with a fierce ambition. At this pace looking like I could have it on the road end of May .

Your doing a great job so far it's looking much better ,I love budget builds ,shows what you can do with not a lot . Any guy can build a car just by ordering one of everything and bolting the stuff on . Keep up the good work ,looking at other builds keeps me motivated

Thank you bb70. I study this site like a book. I read every little bit of info I can. I love seeing all the other builds on here. And I would love to be able to order every thing at one time but that takes a ton of cash. I spent a small fortune racing but it was easier to find cheap stuff or wheel n deal for stuff. Not so much with street cars. Maybe if I had a camaro or montecarlo I would be set. But I gotta say if I didn't find this roadrunner I would still be throwing money away racing. So thank god I found this car,at least when I'm done with it I'll have a nice hot rod for more then a few laps lol. That was the thing that killed me was putting all the winter worth of work in the car and destroy it in a couple laps. So happy to be here and happy someone besides me enjoys my work

It looks like you're making progress on your '73. I've had one for 20 years now that unfortunately I've walked away from a few times over the years. I have a new engine, transmission, fuel tank and sender, radiator and a bunch of other parts including new door handles. Ive had the parts for it since the 90's. So don't be like me and just stick to it. (lol) In the pictures you posted of the car cruise, that brown Roadrunner looks like it says "GTX" above the 440 numbers on the hood. If that is an original 440 "U" code car then it is pretty rare, being one of 749 made in '73. That's what mine is, although in pieces. Anyhow, good luck with the rest of your project and here are some pics of mine.000_0449.jpg000_0454.jpg000_0453.jpg000_0457.jpg000_0458.jpg

jay I can her your car saying...

'come back to me"

I can hear that too ,lol. Thanks jay, sometimes the sheer price of things for this car kills me . I'm damn near broke so needing a 50-100 dollar part could hold me up weeks, that's when I try to go to another part of the car and do stuff but that's then I'll run into another thing I forgot or is a part I have to order, and can't afford for weeks. I prolly should hve held off on starting the process till I had it all but I'm both too bright earthier lol. But I went on a saving/spending spree to make sure I have what I need now. I'm pretty well set only like a radiator and windshield that are a lil on the pricey side. The body will be a whole mother thing pretty much go a drive it in primer grey so I can at least enjoy it while I'm saving for a paint job and body work. Luckily the floors were good or I deffinetly would have been hating life.
And yes jay the brown roadrunner is a original 440 car and a beautiful specimen as well. The blue one I posted old pics of earlier in the thread was a 440 car to it was my dad's . Your car looks like a great start you should post a thread and get to building, lol. Not that many 73-74s on here, could always use more. Deffinetly seeing a gtx come back to life would be beyond awesome.
