I just put brand new green coolant in my 318 and within a few days in changed to bright orange, what would cause this? It's a fresh rebuild on the 318

somewhere you have rust, whether residual from inside the block or in the radiator.

As recommended above. It should stay green - and green is the best. Flush it.

Should not happen if the block has been hot-tanked and thoroughly flushed prior to assemble. A good flush is what is needed as stated by others above. :icon_thumright:

You know another thing I noticed on re assembly I found a big ball of radiator leak stop in the water jacket, looked like a turd, I wonder if some of that is changing the color. I guess I will have to flush her out real good

That's exactly what's causing it. Had my daughter's boyfriend try and 'fix' her car with that stuff. I flushed...and flushed...drove it, then flushed...re-flushed, and still had it turning the coolant orange. Pretty sure it all but clogged up her heater core as well. She ultimately drove it into the ground and the car went to the auto recycler.
