Volare Roadrunner

Need pics.

I've personally never seen a Volare RR with that puffy brougham half top, although I have seen them with the only RR thing about them being the stripe.

That being said, they could have come with tuff wheels, buckets, SG axle, ground effects, rallye wheels or aluminum wheels, 4 speeds, T tops, and all sorts of stuff.

Good/mint parts are worth a bunch. You could have a nice little stash of cash from parting out a complete/rusty car.

This complete/NOS grille assembly[bought in pieces] cost me $1300, and 1 1/2 years to find.......back in 2007.

Free ?
That price is right if nothing else...

BUT; not really my cup of tea & not much of any in that era except trucks/4x4's
BUT; I knew a few people that have had them, they were diehards too, loved them

for that era they aren't too bad,
but not very popular now as you will see...
Rare isn't exactly the word I'd use to describe them or the parts availability etc.
it's more like nonexistent now

there is a devout following of them too...

good luck & Happy Moparing

enjoy the information & photos thou

I had an aspen super coupe for a DD when i was later teens to early 20's. It was a great car. I ran a 318 in it and i used it to drive to tech school. Saved up and put a healthy 340 in it. It was a rare car too. One of 500 something. I even had the original 360 to it but it was in pieces. I never did anything with it and wound up selling the car. I would love to have it back. If that road runner is solid i would take it in a hearbeat. Perfect car for a 3g hemi swap

Is that a question? Here we use QUESTION MARKS to let people know that we are asking a question.

You want an F-body that is super-unique??? Try a Volare' or Aspen Sport Wagon. This had the cop suspension and other options, along with the 360HP engine. Fender flares and other normal late '70s things were three, too. How many were made? Around a dozen. Not a well-known, nor well-publicized Volare.

I damn near bought a brand new orange '77, but the payment scared me so I just put a new engine in my '69 GTX instead. :icon_mrgreen:

Earlier this year I pulled a few parts from a Volare wagon at a Pick-N-Pull in Rancho Cordova, CA. It was a 360 4 barrel, 727, 8.25 axle with 3.21 gears. Rubber floor mats, vinyl seats. I didn't look at the suspension but it may have been like the model you described. No A/C and it did have a P/S cooler. I thought it was a Police Station Wagon.

You really shouldn't sell these Mopars short. There were some rust problems that were supposedly fixed by 78. My daily driver was a 79 Volare wagon. It was slant six automatic but the dang thing got 30 mpg on the highway.
I only stopped driving it because the frame bent in a wreck (not my fault). I would love to find another wagon to replace it. I wouldn't give it a second thought, if you can use a second car, go for it or, send it my way. (where is it exactly?)

That's a good looking wagon you had badvert

.....and I've seen "regular" Volare's and Aspens optioned like they should be an RR or R/T, but aren't.

A customer of the gas station I worked at in the 80's had an Aspen wagon with a 360 and 4 speed, bucket seats and rallye wheels.
Was dark purple/burgundy, too. I remember the first time I got in it to dive it into the bay...I was like "whoa, WTF?"

I've seen several 1980 Volare "Dusters" with slant sixes and color keyed tuff wheels, including a couple with T tops.

Yes, I really miss that one. I made my own Sport Wagon. I added the spoilers, sport mirrors and scoop, as well as solid suspension bushings, poly spring bushings, rear sway bar, dressed up 'cop' wheels and blacked out all the trim. Dang thing handles great and could really haul a lot of stuff. It's the perfect size for a wagon.
Wish I could find a better pic of the blacked out trim.

I would say keep it. My first car was a 78 Dodge Aspen the equivalent body of the Volare. Granted mine was only a slant six but she racked up over 250k miles and was still running. It did have a rust problem and while in high school that is where I learned how to do body work. I would keep it and turn it into a run about car that you could terrorize in.

My buddy had the Volare with T-tops and 318. It was a fun car to drive around tear up the streets.

My first car was a 76 Aspen with /6 and OD 833. Loved it. IIRC the Volare RR/Aspen R/T came with a 4-speed only with the 318, if you got a 360 you got an auto.

Correct. I tried to order one, and they said no way.......so I said, no way.

Here is my 1976 aspen RT I had back in the mid 90's. Had a 69 340 with 508 cam and 4 speed and 4:56 rear76dodge.JPG
