So as I've written before, I hate the Edelbrock carb I have. After having to take it apart, and clean and adjust parts and floats three times, it was running awesome. Then the engine developed issues. I thought it was ignition, but I took the air cleaner off, and started the car and when it died it spit gas up through the carb.

I took the carb off and cleaned it for the fourth time, pulled the needles and seats and polished them, put it all together and now I have gas pouring out of the meterering rod covers, which are vents for the fuel bowls, so something is seriously blocking the needles.

So I am junking that POS and shopping for a Holley this week.

Just remember the Holley is gonna want clean fuel. The needle and seat in them love to pickup debris. Other than that they are awesome

I drove this car with a Holley on it for over a year with zero issues. With the Edelbrock... nothing but issues.

I'm really shocked to hear this. I've had an Edelbrock on the car when I bought it (Dec. '14). It's possible that I am just too dumb to know better, but so far I have no complaints.

This sound more like a misadjusted float than a needle or seat problem to me.

It was a long time ago when carbeurators should have been junked completely ( especially Edlebroke ) for the sake of easy starting and smooth powerful running. I know not every one can afford TBI but by time you add up the cost and time to keep carbs efficient, you may well have been better off with TBI. Oh well, lots of people still use dial-up home telephones.

Have you checked your fuel pressure lately? I'm not an Edelbrock fan but that definitely sounds like an easy issue to diagnose.

I don't argue that TBI's aren't great but a good quality properly setup carb can run and run and run with no issues. Today's fuels cause more problems than anything else with these cars IMO.

Haven't checked the pressure, but it's a plain stock BB pump and it's been working fine for months. Unless a pump can suddenly increase pressure, it isn't the pump. :(

Let's see? Let's junk a carb because either A: the seat is not screwed in tight or B: there is crap from the fuel system stuck in the needle or C: improper float level or D: float bowl baffels installed incorrecty or E: one last possibility over 7psi fuel pressure. Not one of these issues is the fault of the carb. An incorrectly assembled carb dosen't care what brand it is. Still won't work.

I put a quick fuel carb on my car,and am very happy with it. Price was good too. I'm not a fan of Edelbrock carbs. For me, they work great, or F with you till you put something else on. JMO.

What Doug said ^^^^^^^^. Did anyone else notice in the Thompson video how much further the throttle was opened when they showed their diffuser? Not disputing mentor70's success with them, but fair is fair...

Yes, that was the first thing I noticed.

The videos realy suck...i almost didn't by this product, kinda pricey.

They should have used a carb without a choke horn for the vids.
But they do work awesome. Fixed a couple of issues i had with the Holley on my truck and brought my attention to a problem i didn't know i had.

Fixing a flooding carb is like fixing a running toilet, same principal.

Well, A: The seat is screwed in tight. B: The needles and seats were both cleaned and polished. C: T

I guess you didn't read my post. The seats and needles were pulled, cleaned, and polished. They are as shiny as new pennies, and I can assure you the seats are in tight. The floats were checked for leaks and I made sure they were at the right height. And unless a stock fuel pump, that's been pumping fuel at the correct pressure with no problems for six months can suddenly go into overdrive and start pumping more... the problem is none of things you listed.

That seems to be a popular opinion. I'm always seeing Edelbrock carbs for sale on CL. There's usually four or five for every Holley for sale, and the big reason for selling is usually "too big for engine", which I'm now learning means the carb isn't regulating the fuel for crap.
