Took my '70 b body to work today and on the highway heard a rythmic roaring noise from the rear. Goes away when l let off the gas. Rear end? Going to have the gear oil checked at lunch but there are no obvious leaks.

Make sure your U joint or pinoin yoke isn't loose

Mine does that too on the highway. I've always thought it was the 3.91's or maybe a driveshaft slightly out of balance, but I'm not sure.

Axle bearing sounds like that, though maybe more constant than rhythmic. Kinda like you suddenly have a set of snow tires.

Go to your local votech - the teacher can diagnose it for free on a lift - then if possible, take it home and do it yourself.

Usually if it gets quitell when you cost it could be a loose pinion yoke or a worn out pinion bearing
