I just bought this Drag car

Take as weight as you can,,,,,,,OUT! I lost 200 lbs last winter and I'm working on another 50!
Where did the weight loss come from? You or the car?? :D I lost 40+ lbs but found 5 of em and seem to be hanging onto them for now. :(

Aluminum heads & rocker stands, aluminum driveshaft, aluminum oil pan, eliminated the dual oil filter set up,trimmed some un needed metal to make some space. Yet I added a "J" bar and a few braces.Still looking for another 50!

What year & model make did the 8-3/4 come from? Any mods to the perches?
1968 C body car. Perfect fit for a mini tub. Yes I will have to move the perches. Already found some 12 in wide drag lites with the correct offset. I’ve measured 18 times haha. Should fit nice.

I like the Calvert perch and their sliders. If you go with a stock perch, reinforce it!

But you don't have to do big welds to make the reinforcements do the job. Keep in mind that big welds does more pulling than light welds....IE, the metal moves taking it out of alignment.

An update would be nice. I always say I had a cruel joke played on me ,So tall one way and so short in another.

Ok sorry I got busy. Yes the car made it out 3 test n tunes then 4 races. I’ll condense it down. First test was terrible. Car was super slow & bouncing all over the track. Almost put it in the wall. The 3.08 sure grip is killing it. Edelbrock single plane intake also. Torsion bars too high & COMPLETELY worn out shocks. Replaced the shocks with stock replacements (all I could find) lowered the entire car (front 1 inch back 1 1/2 inch) & scored some newer & taller rear slicks. Went back out similar weather & car picked up 2 tenths & drove much better. Still slow but making progress. Tuned on the carb & raised the timing up. Went to third & final test. 100 degrees & brutal humidity. Car picked up a few hundredths & 3 straight passes at 8.50. Deadly consistent. Quarter mile 13.25. Here’s why it’s slow. The 3.08 gear the car traps around 4400-4500 RPM. On 1/8 mile track I can only shift once at 5500 RPM before I hit the stipe. And ironically the same time on the quarter mile passes. The one shift at 5500 is why it’s so consistent. I decided to enter in a race. Won 2 rounds dead on 8.50. Entered a different track in a night race. 5 passes 8.52 switched lanes & 4 straight 8.50 passes. Went back to the track it tested at where it was 100 degrees. Made it to the semi finals. Car ran 8.50 on every pass except one 8.518. 60 ft during the testing dropped from 2.02 to 1.90 60 foots range from 1.90 to 1.92 depending on the track. The race I semi finaled in I broke the sure grip. So I haven’t been out since September. I bought some more parts for it. I did scale the car at 3 of the tracks. 3240 pounds without me. That’s a lot lighter than I expected. I plan to get it down some more. Still haven’t put that glass rear bumper on. Here are some pics from the various tracks I made it out to.

Oh yea I picked up a sponsor. He’s helped a lot & has committed to next year too. I talked with another business owner & thought he was coming onboard but he got cold feet. Hopefully he’ll come around. I’ve had a lot of fun promoting the car on Facebook. Car has some followers. I like the one one shift thing on the 1//8 mile tracks. That’s slowing the car because it doesn’t have enough gear to build up RPM to shift again but I think that’s why it’s so consistent. IDK, all I can say is 4 different tracks and it ran 8.50 passes at them all in summer heat. I’m going to put a 3.73 sure grip in it that I have & see if the car likes that. That should have me trapping at 5500-5600 & should pick up 2 tenths. I also bought a baffled 8 qt oil pan & a recurved distributor. Plus loosing some more weight. I’m hoping for 8.25-8.30’s next season. Also I had the lettering for the cars name FURYIOUS made & I applied those to each side. I hand painted in yellow over the faded silver 747 numbers. Brush stroke old school look. I like the way it came out

To sum it up. I had a lot of bugs to work out. Along with some driver rust. I’m satisfied with the progress. Next year should be better. I even talked with a 6.0 index driver about driving the car. He cuts deadly lights & was interested in wheeling it. I’ll let him have a race or two if he can win rounds. A lot of people would come over to the car. Most having no idea what it was. A few thought Monte Carlo. A few thought Cordoba. The 50 & older people when I would tell them Fury they would say oh yea I forgot about those.
