So i’m still digging through my overcharging issues and I’ve hit a wall (likely unrelated to the charging problem). The car will not crank from the ignition switch but it will crank from the starter relay. I’ve replaced the switch and it is receiving voltage but no crank there at all. I’m thinking maybe neutral safety switch but i’m not sure where to check for that harness.

Pull the wire off the lower right side of the starter solenoid and ground it (the solenoid post). Thatll tell you if the nss is the issue.

Be warned make sure its in park.

Ground the wire or the terminal?

it could be you need to adjust your shifter linkage so it starts in park or neutral. Did you try and start the car in neutral to see if it starts, if it doesn't move the shifter just abit and try it again, then you will know you have to adjust your linkage.

No luck. The ammeter drops when i turn the car to start but no crank.

With the key held into "start" with one hand, wiggle the shift lever through park and neutral. If no result, get out, open the hood, identify the neutral safety switch wire on the start relay. It will be the "brown- yellow" "push on" connector of the two. Remove that wire, take a clip lead and ground that terminal CAUTION: With this terminal grounded, the car WILL START IN ANY GEAR so be careful. If no result, probe the two push on connectors on the relay with a test lamp while turning the key to start. Make sure the yellow wire gets power, make sure the one clipped to ground has NO power when holding the key to start. Listen for a click from the relay. Finally, with a metal object, jumper across the two large exposed terminals on the relay. The starter should crank. If the car does not start using the key, and the above is met, replace the relay
If the starter does not crank when jumpering the exposed terminals of the relay, jumper the two starter terminals right at the starter. Could be the wiring!!! between the relay and the starter.

So both of my wires are yellow. It will crank with a screwdriver and the starter is receiving voltage from the battery. No click in the start position though

did you try a different relay that could be you problem? The neutral safety switch wire should be a brown and yellow wire, solid yellow color wire goes to the key. Did you do what I said in post #7? Note the position of the yellow and brown-yellow wires in the diagram for the location of the wires. The neutral wire location is the one in the red area. Click on the pictures to make them bigger.
