my 70 charger should be home in a month after 2 yrs at paint shop so been going thru stuff. I found my fender tag in the parts where p.o stripped it. i had believe to be lost so super pleased with that. also found tags off a 68 polara which i belive probably donated its bb drive train. this tag is coded as special order by the 3 digit code but also a single tag which only says 'special order'. now ive thought with all my non origanal plans i could mount it on my car but i know its not So is there value to selling that tag? or just hang on to it?

You know, I jump all over people who try to sell VIN tags (it's illegal)... BUT that isn't a VIN tag. I bet it's worth something to someone who needs it or put it on your car or whatever...just my opinion.

2 years at the paint shop is that normal? What made it be there so long?

The value is in the information on the data tag, not the tag itself. Special Order tags aren’t that hard to find so no, there’s no monitary value to the tag.

If it's that car's vin tag as you call it, fasten it to the fender where it should be, it's a fender tag. Then it will not get lost even if it does not match the way you built your car. Maybe later in the car's life, someone else may want that information for a rebuild back to something else they have in mind.

I have a tag hanging in my garage. "Special Order. Special Paint. Special Mask." Just thought it was a cool souvenir to keep from a car I scrapped. 75 Monaco cop car.

I changed my post. It is the fender tags. Guess i was sicker this weekend than i thought. I thought the fender tag was missing. But now have it , a partial build sheet, vin tag, door vin sticker, body numbers match, and has past n.c inspection so its all good.

no i dont consider that normal. I expected 4 or 5 months but i ve heard alot of stories of cars being gone that long. Hell i heard of 70 dart thats been in a shop 6 yrs and only had 1 quarter installed so far. That guy screwed up and paid like 6000 down. The shop where my car is stays real busy and has had to push mine aside a few times. Hes making it up to me and i wasnt in ahurry so its all good.

There was a member here that sold me and a few others, some "special handling" tags.

$15 ea IIRC.

Those and "special order" on on ebay for about the same price or $20-$25 maybe...
