How does one put a new clip on the cylinder trunk lock key on the 66 charger ?
There is no way I can get my fat fingers up in there to clip that cylinder in place ???

I have to be missing something that can be removed re the body near the tail light assembly It's all enclosed , the shop manual isn't very clear. I don't know

The original did not use a clip.
It was longer and used a nut with spacers.
( It also did not have the stainless clip allowing access to the lock pins. The local locksmith described it as a "GM" type.)
I was unable to find the correct one reproduced.
The common B body one sold will work.
There is a hole to access it to the left of the lock.
It can be done and will mount flush by eliminating the spacers.
The key will not clear the rear bumper with that one. though without modification.of the round end.

mine also has wedge there was one in the for sale section that sold but it did have pictures of the whole set up

Are you not replacing your original with a reproduction?
That's what I'm saying.
I THINK if you try something different you won't be able to get that clip on.
The lock set commonly for sale is for "other" B bodies and is too short.

Original assembly is a five piece threaded lock body with a nut. Lock cylinder, chrome wedge spacer, body gasket, reverse wedge(not chromed),washer and nut. To install or remove......You have to remove taillight assembly.

Those clip style, will work, however, angle of key is way out.

Got it

So just a follow up to my trunk lock. I kept all original pieces bought a clear gasket and JB welded the whole thing back on . I glued the lock mechanism and plastic washer together, then took the chrome wedge trim and attached it to the gasket. Let it dry for 30 min and reinserted back in to receiver and glueing the chrome piece to the body of the car. I then drilled a small hole in the tab that sticks out of the lock assembly in the trunk and put a cotter pin through it. ;)

For those of you who like pictures --- here's the 1966 Charger trunk cylinder, wedged shaped escutcheon, gasket, wedge shaped spacer, washer, and nut.

So I was Missing the 3 pieces starting from the right , great pic. Pictures are worth a thousand words ! Works good and no screw drivers anymore

For those who've never removed the trunk lock cylinder, removing the tail light assembly is the only way to get good access. It's so easy to work when the tail lights are removed.
