Thinking of buying a new eddy RPM intake for a mild 383 street engine.

Not building for the track just red light racing.

Is this the best choice?

For a street cruiser/racer, dual plane Edelbrock Performer or MPP will work fine, have used both. There's also Weiand, though I have not tried them. Maybe RPM Performer (this is what I'm using) if you up the performance.
 
The Holley street dominator is the best low manifold I have found.

I put one on my buddy's 500 RB and it screams with a 850 Holley

I had a 1" spacer on it but he had to take it out to get the hood shut.

IMO, yes! However, according to some dyno testing, IF you can find a low deck Holley “Street Dominator” intake, they dyno’d better. Actual street feel could be different on this low level small port single plane.

A lot of which is best is not only the power it makes but where and when as well as how well the driver likes the way it feels.

Your actual parts choice would be a big help.
Especially cam and head choices.
You will want to make as much torque as possible and be careful of cam duration in a short stroke engine.
 
Start here. Depends on many things. My 67 Charger 383 has very, very tight clearance to the hood which took out a number of options. I ended up with a Holley street dominator due to height with stock hood.
The one and only draw back is good clearance. It always sucks.

I love these tests. I wish they would do more.
 
For what it's worth and for future reference I have the Edelbrock Victor series intake under the hood of my 69 Plymouth Roadrunner 383. there will be a few mods you will have to take to get the hood to shut. Number one will have to take out the choke plate. number two: a drop-down base for the air cleaner and maybe some slight Hood adjustment
 
You should have at least 2-1/2 inches above the carburetor to have it operate properly. Drop bases hurt performance. If you needed to remove the choke for clearance, you seriously should consider a different intake or a hole on the hood.

Also reference, Engine Masters has shown that an air cleaner drop-base is significantly detrimental to power output. What may be gained from the intake may be lost with the drop-base and thus a shorter intake may be just as good power wise without the added hassle.
 
I like the RPM performer intake, dual plane.

Putting it in a 71 Bee with power bulge hood. Should fit under the hood.

I have A RPM on a small block and love it.

Yes it will fit no problem on a 383 in your 71 Bee as it sits .75" lower then a 440

When building my 383/432 Stroker it was a must that I ran the factory dual snorkel air cleaner under the 71 Bee hood

I played with different intakes and heights

The one issue I ran into running the Eddy RPM was the factory one piece adjustable kick down rod and bracket linkage for my Torqueflight

I knew my motor and cam was set up for torque and wouldn’t need to spin past 5,500 RPM s so I went with the Weiand intake

It’s 1.5" lower then the Eddy RPM

And as you can see I run a 1" higher air cleaner filter in my factory assembly with plenty of room between the lid and hood
I even went as far as removing the 71 R/T louvered section in my hood to see how much room I had inbetween

Had my factory air cleaner assembly powder coated , damn thing is beautiful, no way did I want scratches and dings with that motor bouncing around at idle LOL

So a 1" higher filter , a 1/4" thick gasket under the carb and still plenty of space under the hood


Anyways going back to the Holley Street Dominator on what he said , Mild 383

Not a stroker , not a 440 , but Mild 383



I hated the Holley intake on the street with my torque converter and cam - Zero torque up to 3,500 RPM s

The intake screamed after 3,500 to 6,000 RPM s , but was a complete dog down low

I ran it for a few summers , and couldn’t believe the difference in Torque when I switched over to the Edelbrock Performer up to 5,500 RPM s

Night and day difference , sure I lost some HP after 3,500 RPM s but who cares

The Holley Street Dominator works much better on the 440

I have a weiand on the Charger, it's real good...
 
You have two choices here, low-deck M1-4150 (one for sale on eBay currently) or Holley Street Dominator. The RPM is great, gold standard for RB engines, Street Dominator is better for a low-deck. Low profile and great power potential.
