Something Big...

Hey, if you are happy, that is great but look at how bulbous and massive the front end is. Look at how thick it looks from the top of the hood to the bottom of the bumper as compared to....

But you're pushing a brick on stilts through the air. The newer stuff is a lot more streamlined.

Well, 40 years of development has to account for something.
I have 2007 Ram, my 3rd new truck. I had a 2002 and a 2006. To me, even those trucks had a thick frontal area. They just keep getting bigger and bigger though. The 2019 truck....Have you seen it? Even worse!

I like the overall look of my -(2017) "Ram" truck.
What is kinda cool is a 12,000lb winch in the front of mine that does not detract from the profile.

I look at them and see what appears to be a car with a small payload area, almost as if being a TRUCK is an afterthought.
They are selling though. Obviously, I am in the minority. I prefer the regular cab short bed for my needs.
I often wonder....with new vehicles and new clothes: Do we just buy what is being offered or do the manufacturers somehow know what we need then provide it?
I suspect the former.
I recall seeing swimming trunks in the 80s getting longer and longer. I grew up wearing shorts that ended mid-thigh. Today, most are at the knee or longer. I think they look dumb as **** but I buy what is being made only because I cannot make my own clothes. Today you see guys wearing these denim "shorts" and knee high socks. Tell me that this isn't a stupid fashion choice !
I bought a 2002 Ram because I was restoring the Charger and didn't have time to keep dumping money into my 400,000 mile '84 Chevy. The Chevy was a great truck, simple to work on, lots of room to haul stuff. Visibility was great. I still like the looks of the 73-87 GM trucks as well as the 72-80 Dodge trucks.

I have a 2018 Ram 1500 4x4. A basic model but nice. That truck is probably the smoothest riding vehicle I have ever owned. It is a quad cab. I have driven it to Seattle twice ( from Sacramento) and AVG 21MPG both trips. Even my '09 was a comfortable ride. I LOVE driving my 2013 Charger RT but it isn't as comfortable or near as quiet as the Truck. The designs ALWAYS piss me off when they change them but they have always grown on me. The newest versions are the same, however,I like the Rebel front ends best of the 3 pictured above.

Hey that's kind of how I like my women, with two big bulbouses in the front and thick from the top to the bottom...

I will probably piss a lot of people off but I actually use my truck for work I do property maintenance work. I would never buy a short bed for myself as they are useless like mentioned above (no payload)you can't even put a sheet of plywood in the back without leaving the tail gate down or strapping it in with it closed. Put a tool box in the back and you now have a 4ft bed...I did however buy new 2500 4x4 quad cab short bed for my wife back in 03 and she loves that truck. But even she said to me about a year ago she wishes she would have bought a REAL truck with an 8ft bed and not "a soccer mom truck". Been a great truck though here it is taking our boat up to Raystown lake this summer it has over 213k on it now...

So does it have the turning radius of a limo with that 8 footer?

Actually it's not bad as I have always driven long bed extend cab trucks. Not for everyone for sure as most people couldn't park or drive one with out hitting someone or something..

I love mine, 2016 Cummins 6ft8 bed with the mounts in the bed already tied to the frame. Bought it when I retired from the Mil because I am moving back to the mainland need a truck that can handle all the Stupid stuff I do. Hauling my JD on a 20 foot trailer and all the other stuff around. I haven't gotten there but I get a combined MPG of 18-19. on the freeway the short stints usually get 24. Best ride with the coils not springs. I cant wait to hook to the 40ft and go cross country camping. LOL Wife camping, she wont do the tent thing.

I cant drive a smaller truck anymore. They feel flimsy.

Newest ram remind me of late model Toyota tundra. And 440 making come back 6 throttle body injection. True story.

I really like the new Rams, not so much the newest grill treatment but the rest.. yes. As far as regular cab vs extended I think the big thing here is most want to be able to haul the family. I drove a Dakota for years but having only 2 vehicles meant if the wife was gone me and the kids were stuck at home, I sold it and will never own another regular cab to double as a daily driver for that reason. I personally just hate how trucks have evolved into luxury vehicles where your stuck paying a huge bill when all you want is a truck but that's become the case with most all vehicles.

For me I just keep dad's old beater 80's Chevy running for all my hauling while I restore his 83 Ram. Once completed we should have a reliable truck for decades.
