When you remove the stock mechanical pump I assume you remove the shaft/pin that it operates off of also, and removing it doesn't make you loose oil psi or anything bad right?

You don't really need to remove the fuel pump rod.

I've always removed the rods. I guess you don't "have" to, but I don't like the idea of leaving it in there.

Well, it isn't like it flops around or anything. It just slides down the hole and rests against the screw in plug.

Don't lose it, new ones aren't cheap. You could change your mind.
