Would This Type Of Harmonic Balancer Required a Special Flywheel So Everything Is Balanced?

The Engine Is a 440 That Came Out Of a Truck

That's a cast crank balancer so I think not. BB cast crank car engines use neutral balanced converters. Different than SB engines.

I am not an expert on this, but it seems odd to put all the weight on one end. I have read that these engines require an externally balanced flywheel.

Uh, no. ALL cast crank BB's need an externally balanced converter or flywheel.

B & M makes a externally balanced flex plate that lets you run your normal neutral balanced torque converter on an externally balanced engine, and if its a stick car Quick Time makes a balance weight that goes on the end of the crankshaft before you put the flywheel on that gives the correct balance to the crank. I have used both, and both work well.

Does Any Company Make One Thats Externally Balanced That Will Work.. The Car Is A 4-Speed. Thanks Guys

@dodge68charger , is that your flywheel? I agree with Daves69, that looks like an external balanced flywheel to me. Note the three 1" holes on the crankshaft side. Thats a good bit of weight removal, making the opposite side the heavy side for balance purposes, with the non-symetrical bolt pattern determining where the heavy spot is.
I have seen neutral balanced flywheels that have small holes drilled to fine tune balance, but nothing like what the one you show has.

Apparently According To Another Board That Is a Flywheel For a 360 Engine And Weighted Different

This Is a 440 Flywheel

The quick time plate is not a bolt on and go solution. They only make one for mopars and it can't work for all externally balanced engines. They all need a different amount of weight. The crank would have to be balanced with the plate attached and the plate trimmed as required.

Yup Thats The Flywheel I Found In One Of My Parts Bins. Just Wanna Make Sure Its Right For a 440 Before i Bolt It In.

Another Board Said Its For a 360 Engine.

I Know Brewers Sells Them But If I Can Save $230 Plus Exchange ( Im In ) It Would Help. Thanks Guys

If you can find a part number on the flywheel you have, give brewers a call. I dont have any stick shift stuff, so no personal experience, but they have a real good rep for helping out with info.

hi Dave i have a 73 Charger big block 400 with 4 speeds ( engine/trans combo were pulled from another 73 Charger that was originally auto ) , i have vibration at highway speeds and even sitting still especially when i raise my RPM , my flywheel is not like this one , just a simple flat one , no weights or holes ( i checked it from underneath the car ) and some told me that it could be the flywheel or pilot bushing is not even there ( judging by an old photo of my engine on the ground before installing it ) , help please thanks in advance

.......i have vibration at highway speeds and even sitting still especially when i raise my RPM.......

Pretty hard to diagnose an engine vibration over the net. You have a "how do ya' know" issue to start. Meaning how do you know what is in it? Is it all stock? Some one rebuild it at some point?
Anyway, maybe some of this rambling can assist you....

You might start with a general tune up, verifying all ignition parts are sound, timing is correct, and the advance is steady / not bouncing all over.
Release all accessory belts and quickly run the cold engine up to the problem rpm to verify a vibration persists. (eliminate possible external influence)
Full compression test.
Verify what balancer is on it. Verify TDC. Check it for possible slippage if it's an 48 year old stock piece.

pilot bushing is not even there
Not sure, I've never tried this............
If a pilot bushing has come out of the bore you may be able to move the disc up and down with a wood shim once the plate has released the disc.
BTW, You'd also want someone you trust to hold the clutch pedal to the floor for ya' if you try it!
