happy holidays! new member. have a avs off our 68 gtx. recently worked out the bugs and am driving the car after many years of sitting.
not suprising the carb needs attention. while disassembling I noticed theres no air fuel needle heads. the big hole centered is the pcv port. the 2 lower ports were plugged (I was able to get them out). where I believe the adjustment needles should be, theres solder. if I flip the base I see what I believe are the tips of the needles sticking out of the ports. I believe the needles are broken off.
am I correct? asking before I attempt to remove these and more than likely ruin the original base plate.
thank you very much.
the carb tag reads. 4429s
59 38

I have the original 4429 on mine. The lower plugs were meant to be non adjustable once the factory set them. The only other adjustment was with the reverse thread screw at the top center. The brass mixture screws should have a slot for a fine screwdriver if you choose to remove them. I replaced mine with aftermarket afb/avs screws/springs for easy tuning.

Welcome from NY.
Pictures of the car would be more exciting than just a carb.

thank you. I was able to remove the plugs and reveal the slotted screws. they are stuck but leaking penetrant thru the ports at least. one more slowly than the other which hopefully indicates an adjustment from the factory as their clocked differently. many other issues that could have affected performance. will plug the screw ports with hot glue after the rebuild and give it a try. thanks again.
