Turncoat.. yeap I did just that!

I've always owned Dodge/Ram pickups and Chrysler cars. I honestly don't know what I'll buy in the future though. I don't like sending profits from what I buy to whatever the flavour of the month is in Europe so they can reinvest in Fiat, Peugeot or whatever else S+(& box company is currently raping Chrysler. The old Chrysler corp is gone for good and I've never been a fan of GM or Ford especially their pickup trucks. I drive a GM pickup for work currently and hate the electronics in itand the awful sound of the V8 diesel. Ford trucks are good except Ford has never been able to build a decent gas engine other than the 460 and 5.0 and their diesel is again a horrible sounding V8 as well. I think I may try a Ford in the future though. An Asian pickup truck is not in any future plans for me. I'm keeping my Viper probably forever and don't see the need to purchase another car.
The Ecoboost V6 is supposed to be a pretty though motor with great power?

Nope: I had a work truck with the ecoboost and didn't like it at all. My Hemi drives a lot nicer and the fuel mileage didn't seem very good with the ecoboost either.

That’s the problem, mopar offers NO reliable daily drivers, they were all rebranded/ Rebodied Fiats.. including the little baby Jeeps. Euro cars always have problems from fluid leaks to weird electrical , their resale is horrible for what you pay and parts are insane unless you buy knockoffs. I’ve worked on all of them most of my career euro was the worst. They are fine when new but get past a few years and interiors fall apart , electronics, fluid leaks. The one thing I will say the bodies rot slower than domestic and the paint seems more durable. I’m not telling anyone what to buy just what I see and have dealt with.. and I’m not sugar coating it. BMW is horrible for all the plastic parts in the cooling system... Pick your battles get rid of them before the warranty runs out.
I only paid $7,000 out the door so I'm not to worried either way. I get pretty dirty at work plus they get covered in dust sitting in the parking lot which is why I won't spend much on my daily drivers. We'll see, it has some miles on it and still looks clean under the hood.

I just bought a 2019 Laramie with a 5.7, I love it! Great truck all the way around.

Interesting comments. My daily is a 2014 grand Cherokee. 145,000 miles now and still runs and looks great. I’ve been shopping for either another grand Cherokee or a 4Runner. The 4Runner is full frame and still made in Japan, but the Jeep which is pretty much the same as what I have now gets better mpg. Resale on the 4runner is 2x the Jeep? There are so many nice cars out there now and really none are junk like it used to be.

A lot of good input here. I must say I have owned a lot of vehicles ! And one of the most dependable cars I’ve owned was a car I bought for my wife and then both daughters drove it and wrecked it

was a 2008 Mazda 3
Only thing that went bad on it was a thermostat. My JGC is very dependable
Way more than the Tahoe I had for 12 yrs.

I apologize for the incorrect statement I made about no daily drivers are reliable as that’s all I drive . My bad guys, my opinion is that of the little beer can cars . I’m not a fan of fiat rebranded Chrysler’s guys. Maybe I’m judge mental of the fix it again Tony attitude and look for Mopars that are more um how would you say more mopar ? IMO

'01 Cummins, 267,000 miles. 6 speed stick, 4x4. It got a clutch (South Bend) at 250k; I've put 2 alternators in it in the last 10 years, rebuilt the front end at 200k (that Cummins is heavy, and it really wears out the front suspension bits!), and replaced a driveshaft u-joint. That's it for repairs - upgrades are a mechanical lift pump, cold air intake, 4" exhaust, tuner...runs like a champ, 20mpg all day long. My '14 EcoDiesel Grand Cherokee is the closest I've gotten to an "import" with its VM Motori diesel engine...but in 80k all I've had to do is replace front wheel bearings and a steering rack (leaking) - under warranty.

Haven't ever had the urge to buy an import, nor the need. The only non-Mopar I've ever had was an '85 Olds Cutlass Supreme (305/console/buckets/posi) that was a gift from dad to go with my new drivers license. Drove it till I bought my '91 Daytona CS/AGS that I still own...and the rest is history. All Mopars and Jeeps.

I'll hop in my 91 Daytona, or my 90 Voyager 2.5 turbo van, or my Cummins, any day to go anywhere. Ditto the '14 Grand Cherokee (of course). Once I get the new fuel tank in the '72 Satellite wagon, it'll be back to "backup-available" duty, and I'm getting there on the Charger (drove it yesterday for the most miles since I bought it in December, and am pinpointing some little details to fiddle with, like kickdown-adjustment and a dead temp gauge...).

And...they're all paid for. I have no issues with Mopar reliability...but, I also have leeway in that I have plenty of spares, if something does need work.

I have always had a soft spot for minis. I was in the market for a new car several years ago and was seriously considering one until I stumbled on all the stories of the “death rattle”. Apparently they have issues with their timing chains stretching/snapping and grenading the engine. This was about 6-7 years ago, I’m not sure if that issue has been addressed by mini since then.

A friend is into Audi's. Damn they are nice. Until you have to work on them! :BangHead::BangHead::lol:
You've obviously never worked on an Alfa Romeo then.

Don't ever lock yourself out of one of those cars....my buddy Cliff had to get a service tech from the Dealer to come out and do that job. Not for any regular mechanic to work on. Talk about sewing up your problems.

Funny how this thread somehow got loaded full of everyone's examples of their super reliable daily drivers THAT AREN'T COMPACT nor FUEL EFFICIENT (above 30mpg) cars?:realcrazy: I jumped ship because of the lack of options from the American brands for a fuel efficient compact which isn't a RAM, Jeep, Charger, etc. This is Ohio, buying something from the 80's isn't an option either, long since rotted away.

.....so its been a few days....how do you like the cooper??? I know a few people with them and they love them. the one guy goes on a "mini cooper" ride, I think its in the up of michigan. the big 3 have moved well away from the "small" mpg car, what choice does anyone have but to look elsewhere for a mpg car???

I love it, just like every review I've read about them says.. " they're fun to drive". I'm not a huge fan of the way they have everything laid out as far as controls go but I'm getting used to it but everything else I love. It's a really impressive little car, super smooth shifting, handles and stops excellent and the motor is surprisingly quick. If it proves to be reliable I could see myself driving these for awhile.

To me, this is exactly what the American brands are missing, a true compact that not only drives very well but isn't embarrassing to be seen in. Ford Fiesta's, Chevy Aveo's.... absolutely horrible looking turds, you have try really hard to design something that horrible looking!

My ecodiesel Grand Cherokee is sitting in the lot here at work today, 27.1 mpg on the info display (and over the 80k miles I've owned it, it's never been more than 0.2mpg off hand-calculated numbers). Not "30 mpg efficient", but for a 5,000 lb luxury AWD SUV? I'll take it.

If I "need" better than 30mpg, I'll hop on a motorcycle and clock about 58mpg...and have a ****-ton more fun than I would in a Prius :D

Good luck with the motorcycle in Ohio:lol:.

Even in the summer it's a cold ride at 5:00 AM.. A motorcycle was my only transportation at one time, stopping every few miles to warm my hands up got old quick but during the day absolutely.

Heated grips, heated gloves, and heated jacket liner. Best money I EVER spent on a motorcycle!

So I sold my Cummins a couple of years ago with 340 on the clock to fund my project and bought my Dads 02 1500 4.7 and now have about 180k on it and a few things are starting to rear their head making me want a newer daily. I've never purchased a brand new car as I dint like taking the initial depreciation hit. About a month ago however I bought my wife a brand new 21 Pilot that she loves. More than I wanted to spend but it will last her until I'm dead if needed.
So back to my wants, growing up relatively poor as a kid I always had an itch for a Benz, I found an SLS I really liked but still need room for the kids and am thinking about purchasing a 13 E350. I've had it on loan for a couple of days it gets about 32mpg on the hwy and about 22 around the city. Looks like it is brand new. They are asking $13k. If I can get it for $11-12 I might just take it..

Looks pretty nice! Same here on buying new. I only bought one vehicle brand new but if every experience was like that one I'd buy all new cars lol. Several years ago I was in the market for a used Dakota, I found one I really liked at a dealership for $12,000 and made the hour drive to go check it out. I went in dead set on $10,000, they wouldn't budge so I got up to leave when the manager stepped in... I drove away in a brand spanking new 3.7L 5 speed manual Dakota SXT for $10,000!! One of the best vehicles I've ever had, put almost 200,000 miles on it, hauled a ton of gravel at a time, the ski boat, etc... Great buy. Since then every time I've looked into a new vehicle I've left feeling like someone was fixing to rape me! I hate dealerships!

I hear you, I told the salesman Weds when I went to look at it that women say men dont know what it's like giving birth and then said they havent bought many cars before....
I really like it, one thing it's missing is the remote start which I really want. I may go look at a 5 series this afternoon in the same range that has all the tech I want...Buying a vehicle makes my stomach turn...

When my wife's Mother passed a few years ago she got her inheritance and used some to buy a new 2017 Ford Escape Titanium, fully loaded. Paid cash. lol. The dealer was very happy.
