Any Pontiac fans?

What's ironic is that the original 1967 Firebird was the smallest Pontiac when it was introduced. By 1979, it was one of the heaviest cars in Pontiac's' fleet.

I'd think your Monaco is worth a lot more.

I would never let that go.

I'd rather not, selling outright is my goal. However no one wants to step up to my asking price. Just don't have the wherewithal to do the car any time in the future. Unlimited time and money, I would never get rid of it,lol. That's why I'm trying to gauge value, if I decide to move the T/A it would be a much easier sell.

Those firebird hood decals were a pain in the *** to install . Especially when it was something totally new at the time. They were not cheap either. They were neat to look at back then as well. They had that go fast appearance.
I would hit the agree button 4 times if I could , the hood bird and qt. Mile of stripe tape and smaller decals, lol.

I agree the T/A is easier to sell as they have a larger cult following.

I found your ad:

I think the "trade" includes a stack of cash from him.

Hey @Ironbuilt ...look at this car!!!

According to Hagerty a car in this shape would be in the high teens. Inbetween fair and good. The good version actually dropped a couple of thousand in price a year ago. I like the '77's so much better.

Bad little car

Specifically a '79 Trans Am. Looking for a rough idea on value. Solar Gold,WS6,400-4 speed,T-tops,A/C,power windows. Comes with window sticker and other documents. Garage stored since 1995, has 130,000 miles. Besides the obvious that needs to be gone through, needs front bumper inserts(spoiler is there, was taken off for transport),and headliner. Have not looked at it yet. Pics included. Rust spot shown is the only rust, original paint.

If you've not seen it in person yet, I'd offer the following from my own experience.

1) They're prone to rust in a trunk floor panel running side to side just in front of the rear bumper.
2) Floor pans rust along the outer edge of the foot wells, more problematic with T tops when the seals leak, and when the heater core seeps it soaks the right foot well.
3) Front subframe body mount attaching points rust out
4) Doors rust at the front and back corners. I've even seen it on West coast cars. Door weight is hard on the hinges, which will start to sag from age.
5) Windshield seals go bad and they start dripping inside the car, eventually affecting the floor pans.
6) Rear wheel wells and quarters act up just about like similar vintage Camaro's.

I've not seen one with a rust hole like the picture shows.

If the car is good and solid, it's got a lot going for it. It doesn't look like the engine compartment is all hacked up. I'd say mid teens. I've seen several priced higher, but it's not been apparent people are stepping up at those prices.

I've got a solid 75 but with A/T. Have already done the water pump/timing chain plus a few other normal repairs for the vintage. Love driving it. Amazed though at the sheer idiots who express interest in it.

I'm a GTO, Firebird, GTA, Trans Am/Firehawk, WS6 or Formula fan

the 1979 TAs are going up fast, $15k is low now
4 speed 400 is even more,
at least it's not the 301 or 403 Olds engine
We use to get them dirt cheap like $5k or less, in great condition
not anymore

sort of leaching off the popularity of 77 Bandit Trans Am
they are riding that tide

I've had mostly early 70's TAs, wish I still had a few of them now

according to
https://www.nadaguides.com
for a 400cid v8, 4 speed 1979, with 4 wheel disc
no special edition or Anniv. package (could be even more)
the gold was a big deal for some versions thou
$24k to $33k low retail nice driver
$40k to $54k average retail
$62k to $84k near-perfect retail

I'd say take off a min.
maybe another 10%-15% for the 131,000 miles
mabye another 15%-20% for it sitting since 1995,
lots of **** will need to be gone thru, replaced repaired

is it a 10th Anniv. edition ?
is it any special edition ?
does it have the 4 wheel disc option ?

In the mid 80's a friend and I heard of a 61 Catalina that had been a drag car. We tracked down the owner and checked it out. 389sd, #10 McKellar cam, tri power, BW hd 3spd, 4.66's in the rear, cheater slicks, 8 qt pan, black with turquoise interior, radio/heater delete, still wrapped up aluminum bumpers, 1150 miles all from flat towing to local tracks. Guy with the car was the service manager at a dealer. The dealer owner and he went in on the car. In 61 you could not get an SD car already done, you had to buy the car then order all of the SD pieces off of a parts list. Had set the local class record in stock at 13.07@109 mph if I remember correctly. My freind was the Pontiac fiend but he had no dough to buy it. In 86 when the stock market crashed, I was was about to invest some money from my mom's estate. Had made an appointment with a broker. I was on my way there when I called to say I was heading down when he asked if I heard the news. What news? Said the market just crashed. So didn't invest the funds. Later on I was q'ing with my friends, talking about cars and such when we got on the subject of the 61 and wondered if it was still around. Called the guy and it was. Went up to see it again, still bitchin. He started it up monthly since they raced it and garage kept it. Bought it for $10k. I drove it home as I had no other way to get it there. 5 miles or so from home I hear the racket of something going under the car and it started vibrating. OMG moment! Pull over, pop the hood and look around. Found that one blade on the fan had broken off. Lucky for me it went down, just grazed to lower hose then continued under the car. We ended up putting a regular fan on it as the one on the car had a weird bolt spacing due to the mechanical fan clutch. It had springs and brushes like a starter on it. Anyway got it home, put some fresh plugs in, oil change and a tank full of Daeco race gas as it was a 12.0 compression ratio. Kept it garaged for a few months until I saw that the collector car fad was starting to take off. Put an ad in Hemmings for $18k. A guy from the Bay Area calls me about it. Give him the lowdown. Turns out he owns the Ferrari dealership in Los Gatos and this was a side deal for him. He says he'll send a dude with dough and a transporter down to get it. I tell my co-workers at the Peaugeot/Alfa Romeo dealer I was working at about the potential sell. They thought I was full of it. On the appointed day the dude shows up with the truck, had the dealer logo on it which was nice, checked the car out and paid me the 18. My co-workers were speechless. Took the 18 and put it in the market, now that it was safe.
On a side note, when I still had the car we heard of a dairy farmer in the valley that had a collection of SD cars plus parts. Met up with him. He had two 62 SD cars, 421's with the aluminum front ends. He had a HUGE STASH of SD parts. He also had Mickey Thompsons Swiss cheese car. There were two items my car was missing to be "correct", which he had but I didn't buy. Aircleaner and exhaust manifolds. That was a fun trip. The Pontiac freind, during that time period, had found out about a guy in Santa Maria who had a bunch of pieces to sell. This dude had a pair of all the RA heads, including 5's, a paid of SD455 heads plus intake and exhaust manifolds to go with them. Had comp series Thermo Quads, both sizes, with strip kits for them. Blocks, cranks, rods etc too. We took that stuff to the Pomona swap meet to sell them. Pretty much everything sold on the day before it opened when we got there late Saturday afternoon. I think he did hold onto a pair of RA4 heads for his goat.

Very cool story @ckessel

my stepdad Bob was a Pontiac guy
org. raced in S/S Super Stock J or K IIRC, 64 GTO
or M/P Modified Production classes
he was friendly with Mickey Thompson in his drag racing days
Bob ran a 64 GTO 389 tri-power,
67 GTO 400 Ram Air I
68 Firebird 400 HO, my older cousin Joe ended up with that car
70 Judge Ram Air III &/or IV
all manual trans, among others
starting from early 1961 after he got out of the Army,
he ran a 35 Ford PU with Buick power
all up & down Calif. 26 (?) or so racetracks/dragstrips

I started tagging along in like 1966, 7-8 y/o
I was in love with Fuel Altereds

there are some truly historic Pontiacs out there

He is supposed to contact me to come look at my car this weekend. If he is still interested in mine after looking it over than I will arrange to look at the T/A. His dad is a huge fan of 413's and 426 wedges so I think it will be more about him wanting it. The good thing is we are only about 30-35 miles apart.

No special edition that I know of but it does have the WS6 package which means it does have 4 wheel discs.

Did anything "happen"?

No, I suggested he come look at mine first and never heard back. No big deal. I just sold her a couple of weeks ago for $17,000.

Next Saturday this gets a spot next to my roadrunner and 67 camaro. 1970 formula. Factory A/C.

I'm a big Pontiac fan.

1970 Tempest converted into a GTO clone drag car. Chevy 454.
Two 1973 Grand Ams.

2 Pontiac Vibes. Really a Toyota Matrix but the Pontiac badge makes them cheaper. REALLY versatile and fun cars. They can be had for around $1500.

The gold doesn't bother me but I like the '77 grill so much better.

My very first car was a 1966 Pontiac Lemans hardtop. paid $50 for it approx 1976 or so, and drove it home
So,,,, I have a soft spot for them, and maybe someday would love to get either a 66 or 67 GTO
