Have a question. All of the sudden, I have been finding oil slung on the drivers side top of my engine and it is all over the coil, under the air breather, on top of the valley pan and even reaches the front of the carburetor. Mechanic says there is no leak in the intake. Odd place for oil splitter. Could it be oil leaking from the coil and being blown back by the fan? Thanks for the help

yes possibly
Wipe it up and run a short time and look again

Looks like it's from the coil. There's not really any other place that oil could come from that it would be slung in that direction.

I don’t think dark brown oil comes out of the coil, and that’s alot of oil to come out of the Coil. Look at it all over the front. Of the engine. Did you look at the timing cover?
Clean up the oil and change the coil. Then see if it changes. Or Just wrap the coil up real well with paper towels and tape them on. Then go drive it, you will see where the leak is. Coil or engine.

I vote that is engine oil

If the lube is coming out of the coil your going to have a hot to the touch coil. Also may start having problems with starting.

Coils are hot to the touch normally so that's not much of a clue...

Clean it, watch it, pinpoint it.... Looks like engine oil, whats it smell like?

You are correct

Distributor? Clogged pvc valve creating crank case pressure?

Need a better pic of the front. Could be timing cover too.

Well, I replaced the coil. ( cheap stuff first) drove it around a bit and see no evidence of oil yet. Plus it started a lot easier. Hope that was the problem. Will keep you posted. Thanks for the advice thus far

I would think the mechanic would know.
The Mechanic checked for manifold leaks because the car was hard to start. I didn’t ask him to address the oil on top of the motor. I always provide a punch list of items I want addressed and require them to consult me first if they stray from my list. Learned that lesson a long time ago.

So the mechanic is checking the manifold for hard start and ignores the oil where it shouldn’t be ?! Make no sense to me.

That pretty much sums it up. The good news is that it was definitely the coil. $35.00 fix
