I believe it is time to regear my car. Current set up is a 512cid, 727 trans with the PTC 8" converter. Crossram with dual eddy 1407's. Cam is a solid flat tappet 600/600 (don't have the rest of the specs handy). Running 30" tall drag radials. Current gear ratio is a 4.88. In the quarter I am trapping right at 7,000rpm at between 118 and 120 mph and have run a personal best of 11.04. This is in a 64 dodge 330.

I would like to gear down to a 4.30 or 4.10. Not too sure which is more appropriate.

When researching gear sets, there appears to be two different carriers, 1 for a 4.10 and down gear ratio and 1 for a 4.56 and up gear ratio. The 4.30 gear requires a 4.10 and lower carrier. I would assume that any change in gear ratio to anything 4.30 or lower will require more than just a gear set. I spoke with a shop today about doing the swap, but didn't know enough to ask the right questions. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 4.10 in my Satellite, 3750#, 512" with 28.5 slicks. 10.50 @ 127MPH about 6500 RPM. With the 512 you don't need too much gear. IIRC the 4.30 was available for both style carriers. The 4.10 & down use the same carrier. I presume you have the high number ratio carrier now.

I run a 4:10 pro gear 40 spline in my Challenger on the street. Good gear for me with 315 (30-1/2") tall tires.

When I recently swapped my 4.10 to 4.30 I had to get a series 5, 4.56 and up carrier. The 4.10 used a series 4 carrier. For what its worth back in the day i swapped my Max Wedge from 4.88 to 4.10. Didn't hurt it a bit.

What’s the intended use of the car?

with a healthy 512 cubes on board, I would think the difference between 4.10’s and 4.30’s would be negligible at best, performance wise.

I have a 4:10 richmond gear set that is make for 4:56 and up carrier . It is a thin ring gear . pn # 82-7325-1 . I picked this up when Herb Mccandless was closing down his shop . It was used in a dodge they took to California to race ford vs chevy vs dodge . Then it was taken back out and put on the shelf . This would save you the cost of a new carrier housing . $100.00 plus the ride . John

Ha! I was just going to comment that I thought they had made those. Problem solved.

I need a 4.56 R&P that goes the other way, for a 4 series case, if anyone has one they would like to sell.
