Chrome platers

They have good reviews on Google reviews. It would be interesting to see their work and prices so if you get a quote or work please post. They are only an 3.5 hrs away from me.

I've used B & L Plating, they do great work.

The unseen over the phone quote was $650.00 each, subject to looking at the bumpers. The person I talked to sounded like the owner and seemed pretty straight forward.

Cambridge Custom Chrome is a lot closer and you don't have to cross a border !!

They quoted me over $4000 for the pair. A bit rich for me.

That price is more like it. I'm not looking for a concourse finish.

I think I'm going to give them a try. Will be a week or two before I can get there, will try one bumper only to start with and see how it goes. Was told 6-8 weeks turn around, will follow up this post as it goes.

Though the reviews are pretty favorable they're also rather generic, seem to be mainly ebay buyer feedback related, and only a couple go into detail. How many women get chrome work done?

Though hopefully unrelated here, I will tell you that over the last year my shop has received three emails from companies offering to SELL GOOD FEEDBACK. They're "bot farms," walls of cell phones all programmed to say positive and yet fully undetailed things about the companies who hire them. I find the practice not only personally distasteful (I work my *** off on every job to earn good reviews) but rendering the entire feedback system suspect as a result. Disingenuous recommendations do no one any good except the lame business (who has to buy good reviews from people who never hired them) and the bot farm owner. Rely on it at your own risk.

Here's another one you should get a quote from. These guys are in London, ON and have been in business since the late '70's. The last thing I ever had done was a pistol grip shifter and they did an awesome job.

You have two types of platers. You have the one's who do primarily small custom jobs and you have the "production" platers. In my experience the production platers generally don't do "triple plating". They'll do nickel on the bare metal then the chrome - skipping the copper which is actually the most expensive part. The copper is the "filler" so to speak, which is sanded and buffed to remove the minor imperfections. This is often not necessary on new parts but is pretty much a "must" when restoring parts. Production shops just aren't interested in putting the necessary time into this type of work. The "custom" platers' bread an butter is the small runs. These guys put in the effort and triple plate the parts. And in reality they can't afford to have different levels of quality. There is no "show" and "driver". So if you want "show" you go to a custom plater, if you want "driver" you go to the production shop. And if its "driver" quality you can live with, I wouldn't waste my time with a plater if the bumpers for your particular model are reproduced. I bought a pair of Goodmark repros for my '69 RR and yes, they have some minor flaws. But I'll tell you for a fact they're FAR better than anything from Bumper Boyz as well as many other rechromed bumpers I've seen. Remember, when the cars were new the bumpers weren't perfect !!

All of my stainless polishing and door post/rear window latches/bumper rechroming was done by The Plating House of Canada in Concord. The same place that does all of the Guilds work, as well as my painter George Biggs work. My rear bumper was $1400 CDN in 2018...

You just have to bring a BIG bag of $$$! They do very nice work, but it is expensive. Likely due to our more stringent environmental laws than those in some states. Everything involved in the plating process is unfriendly to the environment. A lot of plating shops up here have gone out of business.
