Jay Prehistoric Pets

I have a quite fascination / appreciation with snakes. I used to catch them and try to keep them for pets when I was much younger. Back when I was maybe in my early teens I caught a small garter snake in our backyard. And wanted to keep him ,,,,,Mom was NOT happy she found out I had one in a box on top of the TV in the living room. He was only maybe 12-14 inches long if I remember right.
I even got put off the school bus one time because I had one I found at school. I had to walk almost 2 miles home that day.

I stumbled on to this guys videos and WOW, Not sure if I could handle one this big or not in comfort.

Do you watch Swamp People; 'Serpent Invasion'
on Thursday night 'History Channel' (9:00pm PST) after Swamp People

My parents weren’t to keen on snakes either. I remember catching a snake one time that I didn’t have a cage for. I put it in a pillow case and tied a knot in the open end and carelessly put it on my bed. My mom came into my room when I was outside, looking for clothes to wash and she untied the knot, dumping the snake on the bed. There was a lot of screaming in the house that day.

Nope.

That yellow thing.....

It's funny, I think I have seen at least three TV programs with people that go out to the jungle to see if it's "myth or fact" that snakes can get that big.
Meanwhile, this guy is pointing and laughing at it moving down his hallway.
Reminds me of the "myth of the giant squid" that was perpetuated until basically even as recent as 15 years ago.

This is not for me. Seems like every time something like this comes up on facebook you can set the timer until there is a newspaper article about how a guy was found strangled to death or half eaten by his "pet". They are like big cats, you can trust it right up until you can't. Good luck guessing that right!

My daughter has a ball python she raised from the size of a fat earthworm to a muscular four footer. We researched the snake hobby extensively before the purchase. The ball pythons are a bit harder to raise than some other varieties, but have the advantage of not growing to the point where they became potentially dangerous to handle. Reticulated pythons look the same when tiny, and are easier to raise, but grow easily to the size where they pose a problem. I had a friend in high school who was a snake hobbyist. He would donate his pets to zoos after they reached seven feet, the size at which he felt they posed a handling risk.

Now this guy here, I watched a show of his back in the day, was scary. Reportedly struck 173 times by poisonous snakes over the years, died at the age of 100 in 2011.(Bill Haast)

Clyde Peeling, long time owner of Reptile Land in central PA is a similar story. He's well up in years now, was a reptile advocate back when I was a kid.
