Restore OEM Bumpers or Buy New

I have used many of the AMD bumpers on mini Mopar’s….. unless it’s a super rare hemi or 446 pack car just go with the AMD saving yourself a lot of trouble…… I am an a.m.d …. Dealer if you need help with them.

Since you’re a dealer, any intel as to why the 68-69 Plymouth B body bumpers have been in short supply over the last couple of years? Just curious.

They have not given us a reason why they are discontinued.... We see the same things that you see on the internet. They're just listed as unavailable.... Thanks again. If I find out more I will post here

I have original front and rear bumpers for my 70 Roadrunner which need restored. They will cost a lot more to restore than it would be purchase reproduction style OEM bumpers.

What are the pros and cons to each approach aside from cost.

Bumpers - Front Bumpers

Rear Bumper - 70 Plymouth B-Body

Has anybody else run into this decision and what did you do?

Thanks,
Drew
Both bumpers on my 67 Charger are shot. I looked into reproduction and its cheaper to have a local place just re-chrome them. They want like $250 in shipping plus the cost of the bumper. I found a place half hour away that can do it.

Does anyone like the black look? Especially with bright colors yellow or lime green. Black wheels and black bumpers powdered. Chrome covers on wheels . Any pics out there?

Not me.
Don't like black wheels about 95% of the time and hate black bumpers on anything but trucks, and not often then.
Body colored painted bumpers are different. I've done that to avoid a $1500 bill to straighten and chrome ONE bumper! It kinda simulates a fiberglass bumper... till you bang your shin on it.

I'd like to see some pics as well.

Yes, body color is nice agreed
You guys got me thinking.... How would a 67 Charger look with bumpers the same color as the car?

I had both my bumpers on my 68 coronet show quality triple plated chrome, unbelievable quality job front was 900 plus shipping an the back was 800. All total was1960.00. I have a amd bumper that is no comparison to the original, REDS PART'S ATTIC.COM. JOE DELVECHICO IS THE CONTACT. AN UNDER 90 day turnaround time highly recommended

There was a great chrome shop in Commiefornia, Escondido Plating. I think they were “grandfathered” out of the crazy eco-nazi laws since they’ve been there for over 50 years. They did my bee rear bumper for $350 back in 2017. Not sure about cost now but they were pretty reasonable when Ogden Chrome was quoting $800. My bumper had 2 trailer hitch holes that needed welding up and also needed minor straightening. Triple plated, Turned out perfect.

I know king of trim does chrome I was just there last year had bumpers everywhere and I asked they can do anything. I think they’re close to Mexico.

You can't re-chrome in California?
You can't AFFORD to chrome in california (edit: well maybe that's wrong, maybe you and I CAN afford it.... I just choose not to!)
. Environmental regs have closed about 90% of the chrome shops, and the ones that are still in business charge like they are the ONLY ones in business!

AMD bumpers ? A few cars I know, as well as a close buddy of mine, has them and in NO WAY are they as thick as OEM. Yeah, they look good, the fit is decent but NOT AS GOOD AS OEM - we did a side-by-side comparo.
The end of 2017, I ordered an AMD rear bumper and weighed it against my stock bumper. 21.5lbs to 22 lbs. So 8oz difference in weight isn't what I'd call a big difference.

I like body-colored bumpers on some B-Bodies, but not the 1970 Super Bee. I think they give my '70 Charger a bit of a menacing look with Grendel's liberally-applied goth makeup:
