Was wondering the correct fuel line size and setup on a 69 440 HP? 5/16 or 3/8". Did the 70 HP have the 3/8"? Would the 3/8" be better? Thanks

IMO.....Original installation was 5/16", U code engine, no vapor separator, The six barrel engine, V code, would be 3/8" with fuel vapor separator and a separate 1/4" vapor return line back to the tank. Just my opinion......

Starting in '68, the 440 High Performance Engines and Hemis were factory equipped with 3/8 inch inlet line with the 1/4 inch return line and the fuel vapor separator.

Unless it is an outright modified performance engine, a 5/16 inch fuel line works fine. The factory A990 Hemi race engines and the RO/WO engines ran with just a 5/16 inch fuel line from the factory.

That's exactly how mine came originally, but when I installed a new tank, I just switched to all 3/8".
When the rubber sleeve connecting to the tank had to be replaced on Baby Blue, the shop guys were scratching their heads, wondering what the factory was thinking with the 3/8 - 5/16 combo.

The original fuel supply lines for my 69 r/t were 5/16 front to back. 1/4" return line. I have the original fuei pump off my r/t and it has a 5/16 nipple for tank to pump, 1/8" pipe outlet for a brass 5/16 inverted flare fitting for pump to carb. Never seen a factory 440 with 3/8" lines. 3/8" 6pak carb fuel lines can be somewhat problematic (i've made them), but were never factory.

My r/t has a 3/8 pickup-sending unit (original to the car),but came with 5/16 tank to pump.

I also have the original fuel pump from my '69 GTX, and it has the same set up.

If you don't already have a return line and are not looking for a concourse gold car, it is easiest to add a 3/8" line and make the existing line your return. Just need to change the fuel sending unit to accept both lines and add a dual outlet fuel filter.

I still have the OE 5/16" fuel line from my U code GTX....I upgraded to 3/8" just to be sure it wouldn't starve. :)

Nobody knew the difference back then in 2001 when I restored the car.
