Hi all, I am still persevering with my Thermoquad (although I am reaching the point where I start to wonder why). I've got the choke working pretty well and have been through the workshop manual sequence a couple of times today. Trouble is, at the final step, the secondary throttle lock out adjustment tag broke off. I'm guessing that this just means that I can, if I was silly enough to floor it while its still warming up and the choke is operating, open the secondaries. Can anyone please confirm that for me though? I'm not keen on pulling it all off and go chasing another leaver assembly but I know that is what I'll end up doing. In the mean time, is it drivable do you think? Thanks in advance for any advice!!!

By way of update - I took her out for a run and she seemed to behave quite well during the start and warm-up phases. No coughing and good steady idle (once I got the fast idle setting right). I did notice, however, that once I got her all warmed up, when I did give her a kick in the guts, I could not hear that unmistakable sound of Thermoquad secondaries opening up. Nor was there a decent kick in the pants one would expect. Its like the primaries are working really well but that's it; no secondaries. Could it be that the tang that broke off was what was actuating the secondaries or have I got it the wrong way around?

Pratty,
You do not need a choke here. I can GIVE you any parts, advice on tuning. I built a 440 & we used an 850 TQ. In a 68 Charger. It made 600 hp on the dyno. Trip to Chy on the Murray, 4 people in the car & their luggage, got 19 mpg on one tankful & 18+ mpg on another tankful, mixed with some city driving. PM me your ph #.

Also....
If you are using the original air valve dashpot [ rt rear of carb ] forget it. The rubber goes hard & you get all sorts of strange problems. Get a new one & also a leather acc plunger. There is a place in Vic that sells them. I found them on Ebay, cannot remember the name. Set AV spring at 2 turns. Wasting your time without a new dashpot.

Thanks Geoff and Mike.

Geoff, thanks for the tip! The dashpots on both sides (this is on a 351C) were replaced when rebuilding a while back and are functioning well. I have been through the air door spring adjustments and got rid of a lean bog on take-off a while back, so all good on that front thanks. I replaced the accelerator pump plunger a while back too. I think it was another rubber one so I might chase down the good leather one you mentioned and keep it ready. I have thought about getting rid of the choke but this has a mild cam and stock c6. I'm going to fit a small stall converter and my hope is that even on 5 degree mornings (not really cold I know) I won't get stalling as she warms up.

Thanks Mike, I hunted around a few places today and I might (only a solid maybe) be able to get a replacement fast idle cam/step/rod lever. I was wondering about pulling it off and gently welding the tab back on with my little MIG welder. I'll give that a go, thanks!
