Finishing up a 16'x17' deck and my son's house next door, payback from the hvac installs in my new shop. Should be done around noon.

Spent all Saturday with family cutting, hacking and loading a trailer to haul away about a ton of garden waste - trees trimmed, cut out and gardens de-cluttered for my elderly parents. The garden has been too much for them to manage for a couple of years now. Last time we did this was during the dark dark of the 'Rone lockdowns.
On Sunday my B.I.L. came back to help me, and between us we dumped another ton 'ish of waste at the tip. My back is feeling it now....Monday morning and I don't feel like working.....but I have to.
Silly me didn't take any before photos. There is actually daylight between the side of the house and the boundary fence now.... I saw houses I have not noticed before.

My sister was in charge of food & drinks....as she is still recovering from breaking her ankle earlier in the year.... my boys helped....and B.I.L. was a real trooper as usual. Had to keep my father away as he just wobbles around ...lol.... he leaned on the trailer for balance just after I had strapped it all down....and released one rachet strap by mistake. We had that thing packed so hard. I strapped down with what looked like a big load, then piled more on and strapped that down.

Luckily the people at the tip know me and I got a very heavy discount.

^^^^ There's a crapload more to do...but we made a healthy start. :)

Down-sizing has begun..... finally convinced them to sell and buy a smaller place. They refuse to go into a retirement village....my father would be a Basil Fawlty type anyway.....so a smaller 2-3 bed and single level will be fine. The inside of the house needs more than a Marie Quando deal..... more trucks needed there I fear.

Moments after leaving home it started to sprinkle, I went to the car show anyway and it turned out to be a pretty nice day...

Been wanting to do this for awhile. I built me a 30"x48" table that I can roll around wherever I need to. 5/16" plate on top with 2" GRC for legs, 1-1/4" for the bottom supports and some 2x2 angle underneath to stiffen it up (heh heh).
Now just need to dig up a piece of plate or plywood to make the bottom shelf...we had materials laying around so I really didn't want to spend any money on it (well, I did buy the casters $100 for the set with brakes on the swivels..)

...then I chased this guy away from the chickens.
I don't shoot the foxes. I'll shoot the **** out the 'yotes and pigs but not a fox....they just seem like such nice folks plus they're few and far between around here.

Then it got to about 90° out, so an ice cold ale and off we go...

A friend that i haven't seen in the longest time knows that i rebuild lower control arms for our A, B, E, body cars.
He needed the removal of the shells in the LCA's, and pressing the shafts into the new bushings, and then everything back into the LCA's.
So he came over, and did that for him.
And i went up to our "tourist trap" area around Placerville, Ca. called APPLE HILL, and bought some apple pies for myself, and neighbor lady, and a bottle of their white wine.
Exciting day, for this old man, wasn't it? LOL

Right around 5pm I got a call from a good friend who was freaking out because their house was on fire. We hurried over, not knowing what to expect. Sure as ****, it was going up in flames. Not much to do other than try to keep them calm and provide moral support. The garage was about the only thing that survived unscathed. The gas grill on the back deck erupted in a huge fireball which entered the house through an open kitchen window. The upper level and most of the main floor were completely gutted.

We stuck around until it was over and a contractor got everything boarded up, then ran home to gather some clothes and necessities to help them get through the next couple of days. They got out with the clothes on their backs, and that’s about it. They are staying at a hotel near their house so they are readily available for the insurance adjuster and clean up crew. The fire chief said the house and contents are a total loss due to the fire, smoke and water damage.

Looks like a great table - useful too. May I humbly suggest you round the corners of the table? You'll be glad you did - ask me how I know!!! Ouch!

Oh man, that sucks. Of course these things happen unexpectedly, so it is hard to plan for dealing with it. I hope things go well for them and that they are able to recover at least a few personal mementos.

They're rounded, just not with a big radius, all edges smoothed with a flapper it just doesn't look like it in the pics. Yessir we don't want any pokes or sliced fingers!
