If your valves are not opening and closing I don't believe you'll get a good reading. It's like when you don't open the throttle when doing a compression test there's no air being drawn into the cylinder to make compression.
You could adapt a air hose to your tester line and put each cylinder...

Seemed to fit ok, could have been a little wider behind the fender wells but I've seen others that had the cardboard sides and that's as far as the mat went.

There's foam gaskets in between everything. Sometimes if you're careful you can save them. Detroit Muscle sell new ones. They do have notches to line them up so you have to watch for that. Pretty straight forward.
The tail lights are specific to wagons only. They look like they would be the same as the passenger car but they're a bit smaller. I might have one that I bought by mistake.
