I have a six quart oil pan on a 383 with headers and high volume oil pump. I’m changing the oil and only 3.5 quarts came out, including most of what was in the filter. I filled the new filter part way before installing (1/3 quart), then put five quarts of oil into the engine. I ran it a few...
I'm looking for a set of 3/8" thick flanges for my 383 with headers and Edelbrock 5090 heads to try to get a little more clearance for spark plug wires. I just got a new set of MSD wires with the bendable boots and before installing I want to make sure they have all the room they need. I also...
My speedo is running way slow and according to Brewers’ handy chart, I need a green one with 31 teeth. This one is good for the following combos: 26” tires with 3.55 gears, 27” tires with 3.73 gears, 30” tires with 4.10 gears or 31” tires with 4.30 gears. Hoping to trade for a 31 or asking...
Anyone in the Spokane, WA area have a large shrinker/shretcher I can use/rent/borrow? I'm making a patch for the passenger lower quarter (discontinued by AMD) and it needs a little shrinkage towards the tail as demonstrated by Birdsong's #5 video patching General Mayhem. Thanks!
Looks like I’ll need to replace the rear crossmember, both corners, at least one trunk extension and I’ll see if I can salvage the lower valance but it might be more trouble than it’s worth. Frame rails are solid, so it could have been much worse!
What are your collective thoughts on this titled car for 15k (firm). Dana 60 included but if you did the body and paint yourself, how much would someone expect to spend on all the rare options to restore this car? It would be amazing restored - and should be - but without the original...
Has anyone removed the rear valence without drilling through the tail light panel? It would be nice to be able to use a spot weld cutter from inside the trunk to preserve the outside of the tail panel, but is it worth the extra effort?
What's the general pattern regarding lead time for an engine? Say the car was built April 8, 1968 (St. Louis - if the assembly line matters) - would the block have a casting date two weeks-ish earlier? A month?
A little background: 1964 383, Edelbrock E-Street heads, Edelbrock Performer intake, Edelbrock 1411-750, Comp Cams CL23-223-4 Xtreme Energy 224/230 camshaft, headers and HEI ignition. Engine was rebuilt and has about 80 miles on it so far. I’ve only used Ethanol-free gas, 89-91 octane. I...
I was out of excuses and gathered up my courage to take my ‘68 out to a Charger cruise-in yesterday! The car did great - minus the fan relay dying and I had to use a wire jumper to get it working again - and it was a beautiful day! Really great turnout and some amazing cars. Everyone was very...
I’ve been trying to install Sebring convertible seats in my ‘68 and having trouble getting the solenoids for the seat locks to work. They are supposed to be triggered off the door jamb switches. Tracing back into the dash, I find this little metal cylinder with yellow, yellow w/black and pink...
I’m going to get some seat covers for the used buckets I’m using in my ‘68 Charger and I plan to use a buddy seat. I bought the buddy seat a while back at a swap meet and I believe it’s from a 68-70 something - the inside is stamped EX-7-67. I’d like to order extra material from the company...
Very first time taking it to a gas station and first drive with the pistol grip shifter - I like it! Several shakedown items to resolve, but it’s finally roadworthy again after 35 years! Need to make some brackets to mount the buddy seat and install the carpets.
Has anyone tried the Hurst pistol grip attachment on a non-console handle? How does it compare to using a correct handle and plastic grips? Obviously, not as cool, but it’s much less expensive. I’d like to replace the eight ball on my shifter. Also, would a bolt in Hurst handle work in a...
Has anyone changed their external hood release to interior? I’d leave the secondary release handle on the hood, but I’d like to remove the lever in the grille. Mainly, just to keep people from popping the hood quickly when it’s parked. I don’t want locking hood pins - still want to be able to...
I have about ten miles on my fresh 383 now, and took the car into get an alignment done yesterday. Unfortunately, they found a couple front suspension components that need to be replaced first, so I took it back home. I noticed some lifter noise once or twice when I didn't quite get enough gas...
I really want to get my car to Cars and Coffee over in Coeur D'Alene this Saturday but need to get an alignment first. The only shop that seems to do classics (Expert Alignment) is booked through November. Does anyone have a suggestion for another shop?
The lower rear window corners on my ‘68 Charger were gone, and I can’t tell if the patch for the quarter should butt up against the patch for the tulip(?) panel or should they overlap? I would assume during assembly the tulip panel would go on first, then the quarters? So maybe the tulip has a...
I know this is probably vague, but I have a rebuilt 383 and after the break-in I changed the oil and filter and have put about five miles on it, bombing around the neighborhood. A friend took a video of me squeezing it back into the garage and I noticed puffs of white exhaust coming from the...
