From the assembly manual I am trying to understand how these plastic breakaway supports offer any safety. Can someone please explain? I can’t visualize the break and subsequent benefit in the FSM drawing. I know I am missing something. Is the column supposed to just drop in a collision?

This shop is in AUS. Looks like they can dip and strip a whole car at once. Is there any shop here in the states doing this? Imagine how much time this would save and how thorough it would be!
