I want to buy 17x8 wheels for my 66 satellite with no tub or spring modifications, the options for backspacing is 4.00 and 4.75. I read some that the 4.5 to 4.75 range was about right but it was for 15x8 not 17x8. I wanted to ask you guys for some input because I would be terribly upset to buy wheels just to have them not fit. Thank you.

Easy answer. Buy the ones with the most backspace. If they are too close to the springs with the tires you want, spacers fix the problem. If they are too close to the fender (not enough backspace) then what?
And backspace is backspace. Doesn't matter if they are 15s, 17s, or 20s.
I have several vintage wheels that are almost unusable because of too little backspace. The width of tire necessary for the width of the rim won't clear the fender.
