They're just valve covers Mo. It's a 440. I enjoy confusing the Chevy and Ford guys... I'll get casting numbers when I get back from business trip.

The first 440s were in 1966 imperials only. B body's got them in 67.

Here, I'll help you out Brian. What letter and numbers are on the flat pad. That will answer what you have there. "B440" would be a 1966 440, "C440" would be a 1967 440

Does the "1.31.66" not mean anything?

Dare I offer two 400 blocks with this lot for $2700. Let's just say that the years of these 400's are unavailable. Not complete, no cranks, pistons, Rods etc. Just motors. And I have a couple sets of 452 heads I'd throw in. I want this stuff gone, FAST!

Agree with Moparsteve, it's the casting date.

It's not always the year that the block was machined and built. Most of the time the engine was built at least a year after the casting date. That's why I mentioned to check the ID pad on the front, top of the engine.

Early b-block I think there were a 516 (last 3 Nums.) closed chamber style! They did have an open chamber style also mostly used for 2bbl engines!

I'm starting to remember why I quit posting "for sale" items on here... The thread continuously brings out questions like I'm asking $10K for a piece in which I'm claiming is super rare or like I'm trying to screw someone. The arguing of symantics is inevitable. Consider the engine package sold and let this crap fade off into nothing. I'm done with this.

I don't think they were arguing they were just trying to help cuz a 67 built and even better hp stamped motor with 915 heads is worth much more than an average 66 built 440. Casting versus build dates are two different things brother
