1972 Dodge Charger Rallye project

I’m still waiting on new brake lines and cables, so going to move onto the fuel system. A new Spectra fuel tank will be in hopefully as soon as it arrives.

Well things happened over the last couple weeks. Buddy was feeling better and was able to do some work while I was stuck working through the holiday work month. Reassembled the rearend, painted it and had it mounted up with the New Mopar Performance leaf springs and U-Bolts. The factory drums were fine, so they were machines and painted.

Rearend has the New Blistein shocks on it, all new brake hardware, brake cables and even got new brake lines on it. 3rd member got some grey spray and factory swaybar is all hooked up.

New Spectra fuel tank zink coating will hold 18 gallons of high octane goodness for those wonderful cruise days to come.

Did you refurbish the rubber parts for your rear sway bar? If so, can you explain where you got the parts and how you did it. The rubbers are held in place by spot welded saddles for memory.

Fits like factory and Looking sweet Ordered through ED at TheMoparShop.com while new straps and j-hooks came from vendors on eBay.

After we inspected it, found the swaybar bushing were in perfect condition. I mean, there was no sign that these pieces were nearly 50 years old! We left them stock and just left on the bar.

I do think I have an NOS rear bushing I can sell/trade later when I find it.

Thanks, ma Mopar was the sweetheart that came out with that color. :)

Gas tank is still loose as we still need to put the tank mat in. Progress is going smoothly and the restored brake booster has gone on. After 3 failed attempts at rebuilding a correct master cylinder (all were too corroded and would require expensive repair) Ed at the Mopar shop was able to score me a reasonable priced master cylinder for under $40 and it looked correct. That should be in a few days.

Carter hi volume fuel pump was clean, prepped, tested and put back onto the magnum engine. The new fuel line looks good with it. Hope to keep the ‘go-juice’ growing well with that combo.

Been awhile since I posted again. Family was sick last week, so had to take care of the 'olders' . Then went away for a week to do some stuff. Got back Monday ready to ship out a brake booster, but stopped off at work to move $8k pallet of Snake River Beef when I lifted and slipped. Doctor says looks like I strained my sides and possible internal problems related to it, so no nothing for a week! Sucks lying here when there is soo much work I was planning to do (I scheduled 4 days off to do stuff, 3 weeks in advance, and can't do anything bow). Guess I'll watch the Super Bowl with my pops.

Luckily Mike was well enough and got back to a few hours worth of work on the car.
Gas tank finally got the tank pad and it's going on and the vent lines are all replaced and got hooked up. As you can see, the pad Ed Supplied is of good quality, so it's worth the money.

Next the factory driveshaft Got it's turn for some new bits and detailing.

So Mike Got the brake cables and started with those. Decided new was best since the originals are like 50 years old and though being a survivor, my motto is 'Safety first'. He detailed up emergency brake and installed the cables.

Next up is more of the brake system. Ed was able to source the correct brake lines for my later model caliper conversion so I could run later components incase of failure on a road trip and needed to do repairs. Master cylinder came in, nice looks really close to the original. Painted cast metal looks good. Mike deemed the proportioning valve to be good and went ahead and detailed it also. Next thing is to finish all the braking system, then getting the car to run.

Decided t give him a chance to detail the door latches. Had to drill to remove the screw, it was stuck. Giving it a good clean and scrub looked to do the trick and. Seemed to come out fine and freshly lubed before being installed.

Looking good progress is progress!
Give your back time trust me you don't want to hurt it further.

Yeah, pain is there but not too bad today. Might be able to do some light stuff around the house tomorrow. Something I forgot to mention is that I had to order new interior for the car. I’ll post later on when I’m not raging about it as much.
