RTV should NOT be used where it can come into contact with petrol. It turns RTV to jelly.
The intake should be removed, & if gaskets are ok after cleaning, they can be re-used. Use RTV on China Walls, exh xovers & coolant xovers. On intake ports use Loctite 515/518 or Permatex Aviation Cement, either hardening or non-hardening.
Timing mark. With unknown history, maybe ring on the dampener has slipped & is giving a false reading? Fix the gasket first.
