Sounded great until I looked into it, and discovered-
They are ugly
The turbo diesel is also a hybrid
They are ugly
My 25 year old Duramax is looking better

I'd hit "toyota Jan" pretty hard.

Face is a 7.5, but body is an 11!

A couple of the guys at our Quarry have Toyota's ....and they hardly ever sell them. They have models going back 25 years now....Land Cruisers, Pickups.... now they both have the latest Ford Ranger's - one of them has a BIL at a dealership down country, so they get all the 'bells & whistles' - fully loaded with all the options.
I guess sitting on a Dozer or a Cat Loader all day does pay reasonable money. One of them jokingly calls me 'Fonterra' ... (locally based Dairy Company that is now global) ...because he reckons I just go out there to milk them. I just tell him in return that I'm gouging into his bonus. :)

Don't forget to add the 25% tariff.

And don't forget to add the additional dealer profit (ADP), as well as the dealer-installed window tint, paint & interior protection, bed liner, running boards, and brush guard / push bar with LED light bars.

How much does it weigh?
Does it have a battery pack that uses the starter motor for EV boost power?
Does it have cameras to watch where my eyes are looking, microphones to listen to everything I say, alcohol sensors?
Can I get it without the stupid back up cameras and all that BS?

I like it has a 6 speed. So long as it does not weigh 5000lbs the ft. lbs should be adequate to move it out with a 6 speed.
This is closer than any of the American companies have gotten since 2009 to an actual "smaller truck". If I can omit or remove all the spy gear I will probably go check these out.

I built this out of 80’s Toyota truck running gear, tough stuff it has been in some pretty rugged country

The reason you'll never see that truck is the EPA.
If the illustration in #1 is correct, the reason THAT Toyota is coming is because of the giant fender flares, to cover the artificially wide track.
Without those flares and wide wheels, that truck could never get the mandated fuel economy.
Those flares probably allows it to get ten mpg less than it would have to get without them. EPA decides what fuel economy a vehicle needs by a formula that includes wheelbase and TRACK width. Bigger doesn't need to be so economical.
Mopar did the same already, several years ago. Remember the Dodge Nitro?

I seriously doubt it has all that stuff but I could be wrong. If you want all that you need to get a Tacoma.

Tough as a Tacoma but cheaper. It’s got everything the Tacoma has and it’s got a turbo diesel. I had 2 Taco’s. The last real midsize frame on truck. Mine also had the 6 speed with the 300hp V6. Great truck but expensive. If the tariffs don’t kill the Hilux it’s going to be a bargain at $32k versus over $50k for a Tacoma.

lots of lifted Toyota 4x4s around here in the 80s......... and they performed well in the poopy
