Yes that created a big header problem back in the day. They could be custom made. When checked $350 was a lot of money in 1973.

The old boat anchor as they say was always a strong running durable motor that used to be of no interest in tricking up until years later. As said it has some features from the hemi and if done right can get ya some serious go as I've read about and some guys out there that know how to do it. I had my car 20 years thinking on re-doing the motor but it ran so strong I always pushed it off until last year. I think there's something not quite right with my build or there should have been more radical mod's done. I have suspicion the convertor isn't right - something is sluggy with it. I can and have torn down motors and rebuilt with only mild tricks but when it gets beyond that I'm out of my league. I dropped a ton of cash to have a well recommended expert shop get it right and they missed something between what my expectations were and what I got. Think about what you want to achieve with your 318.Thanks everybody that gave me some new knowledge on these polys!
