Monk here's an idea, don't block off the ports, wire open the Heat riser. That's what I've done to my car(4-bbl) , 3-4 miles down the road the choke is rdy to open if I blip the throttle . Still using oe choke. Heat riser spring is broke&no readily/cheap parts available.

yeah well, the heat riser on the manifold doesn't work so there you go
