I have a 68 Road Runner. The frame is not the greatest so I thought I would remove most of the parts and sell the rest with a good title. I have been learning lots. But when I checked the vin vs. fender tag I got worried. It appeared to not be correct. The fender tag matched the rest of the cars numbers stamped(where I could find them) - but the vin and title were different. I got to investigating - stopped when I found the answer I thought served my purpose. Now thinking I should get more clarity.
here is what I found:
I was worried about the last 6 on fender tag not matching just like this guy said in another post elsewhere......
**The VIN numbers and the Fender Tag SHOULD match in the last 6 digits...........somethin fishy here.**
then i saw a post after that ....
*very knowledgeable guy replied*That only applies to 69 and newer cars
68 and older cars have the shipping order number stamped on the fender tag(not the VIN) and it is the shipping order number that is stamped into the body as the hidden number.
unique to 68
Is this true? If so... how can you tell if the dash with vin have been replaced from a different car?
