68 Super Bee project

Well I got my flywheel
Back from surfacing yesterday and it still has some very minor cracks in 2 spots so I’m still not sure if I’m gonna run it or not. Also checked my bellhousing for runnout. And thankfully it’s pretty dang centered with only .001 runout! So hopefully I can find time this week to get the clutch bolted up and get it all painted.

Alright, I’ve been plugging away the last few days. It’s hot and muggy in south Mississippi but that’s normal. Got everything bolted up and today it got painted. I actually let my kids paint it .theyve asked to help paint everything I’ve done on the car and I always have to tell em no. But I wanted them to have a part and know they helped. I gave em a quick lesson on the gun and they did awesome! I didn’t get a pic of my son painting which I regret. We got busy spraying and I missed the chance lol.

Found a little time today so me and the wife put the motor in k member. I separated them 5 years ago. Feels good to see it all coming back together.

Hey guys, quick but as usual late update. I’ve been chipping away at the trans, engine, and front suspension pieces. Got shocks in the back and in the k member, manifolds blasted and coated with Eastwood’s coating. They turned out great! Also installed a correct dipstick and tube to replace the eBay chrome one someone had once put in.

The biggest progress is my trans is done! Went through it with new gaskets and a few little things that needed replacing. Got it cleaned up, painted and marks back on it. Hoping to get my shifter mechanism rebuilt over the weekend. And don’t laugh at my 100. I made an attempt to trace over the original then hand paint it back on using the template. Didn’t work as well as I’d like but oh well.
I degreased and cleaned my torsion bars up the other day as well. Discovered white paint marks which I only ever heard of people having brown. Well mine were white so I went back with white after touching up the black. Hopefully in the next couple weeks all this will be in the car!!!

Been rocking the last couple days mostly with updating my progress haha. Rebuilt my mechanism today. Got the rebuild kit from Brewers. Wasn’t to bad. It was DISGUSTING!! It appears the dust cover had been missing for quite a while. I got a stainless one from Brewers. Soaked everything in converter to clean it up good. Discovered the remains of the leftover red sticker from hurst still on! I was able to clean everything and keep it on. Applied a light film of grease between all the plates to help things slide smooth. It’s amazing how much better it feels now.

I was able to get my dad to come up from Louisiana and lend a hand on the engine/trans/front suspension install. Also had my awesome wife out for an extra set of eyeballs haha. All went well, smooth as can be. I’ve never installed from the bottom but it is the way to go! It’s good to see the car on all 4’s again. I pulled the engine and trans out about 5 years ago, and the front suspension about 2years ago. This went in Thursday and since then I’ve installed the z bar with a rebuild kit from Brewers. Also disassembled the heater box and getting started rebuilding it. Hoping to hear it run by the end of the year!

Great project! I also installed the engine/K frame from below on the Coronet. Even with headers bolted on, with 2 guys it was a couple hours job. Definitely the way to go.

Your car is really coming along nicely and looking great. The hard part is definitely in the rear view mirror for you now. I believe I am going to try installing the motor/trans from the bottom like you did on my current project. Just have to rig up a fancy jig like you made.

Not to fancy, a couple pieces of angle iron and a 4x4 post and there you have it. Sounds sketchy but it was solid and worked like a charm.

Been getting a few things done. The numbers in my wiper motor were in great shape so I hated to lose them. So I cleaned and prepped the rest of the motor and with a lot of careful doing and taping I was able to paint the motor while saving the numbers. Once I I taped them I took one of my small pinstripe brushes and painted between the letters. I’m so happy with the way it turned out. I’m waiting on a new ballast for it which should come in this week.
I also got my drivers side fresh air box done. The whole family signed the flap. And yes I wrote 68 on the year by accident haha my mind was on the car. Battery tray came in from AMD so hopefully I’ll spray it tomorrow.
I ordered all my heater box and firewall insulation from DMT today as well. So I’m slowly making progress.

Your wiper motor lettering looks just like the original stamp. Great work!

Drug the Bee out today. Been a while since it’s seen the sun. Man it needs wheels and tires bad haha! Among other things.

Finished my heater box up over a month ago but have been busy and haven’t been on here much. But things are slowing down now thankfully. Anyway full kit from Detroit Muscle Tech. Cleaned years of rat pee and everything else. Went together nice. Installed new firewall insulation from DMT as well.
I also got my exhaust in from TTI, I’ll be posting pics of that install soon!

It’s been challenging to find time lately to work on the Bee but thankfully the last couple days I’ve been able to finish up my exhaust. I’ve been working on it the last couple weeks and let me tell ya. Laying on your back on cold concrete fighting with exhaust pipes is something everybody needs to do at least once! But it’s in there tti 2.5” with h pipe and the only muffler for a Mopar imo Dynomax ultra flos. I’m going to do the tips later, figure I’d put that money towards other things for the moment. Kit fit pretty good, if anybody here is doing one and has a question let me know, because they don’t give many instructions haha.
