71 Charger Superbee Tribute/Restomod Build

Since I cannot work on the car or anything else for that matter, I decided to surf the internet any buy crap... LOL I just bought a new plasma cutter, I used to have one that I probably mentioned here but it took up too much room. This one is portable.

Let us know how it works out, that might have to go on my list of things to buy. Very cool concept!

I've been watching a lot of videos on it and I think it is exactly what I need. Now I need to build a cart of sorts for it and the plasma cutter stuff.

Its been awhile since I posted mainly because its been awhile since I worked on the car. Since hitting the deer I've been mainly working on the Bike but I did manage to get the carpet into the Charger and roughly fitted, hopefully I can get back to it soon, I'd really like to get it further along.

I did find time to make the jack bridge for my new 4 post lift, also I got my Arcdroid set up and made the first cut with it (its awesome).

It is awesome, you can trace a pattern and then cut it or you can design something in CAD and then cut it

Found some time to delve into the Charger's wiring, I discovered that the Vintage air does in fact work but the switched 12V isn't providing power as it should, so I need to figure out why that is.

Also as I was working on it I noticed the dome and glove box light were "pulsing" and I could hear a faint noise that matched the rhythm. Ultimately I discovered that the map light was shorting so I need to figure that out...

It seems like its a complicated mess but I think it is actually something much simpler, I just need to figure it out by combing through the harness a bit.

As I guessed, it was something simple.... I had it wired correctly but the ignition switch (which is a GM unit) was not making contact in the run position, thus my "switched" devices were not getting power (like the HVAC).

I investigated the map light situation and as it turns out when I was working in the car with the power on, the dome, map and glove box lights are on (glove box because the door is off). It seems that the #562 bulb burns a but hot and melted some of the vinyl above it which was making contact and shorting out that circuit.

I have ordered an LED bulb specifically designed for dome lights and the like, hopefully it should run cooler.

Its been almost a month since I posted anything :( but I am pleased to say that I have resumed work the Charger. I got my Harley reassembled except 1 saddle bag which I painted but I am waiting for the humidity to come down so I can shoot some 2K on it.

On the car I reassembled all of the dash that I disassembled attempting to figure out the electrical issue/s (which I did) and I think it all works (for the most part).

That map light deal reappeared briefly wherein when the door was open and the dome light was on it was "blink" or "pulse" and I can hear something under the dash clicking at the same rate. Also if the headlights are on they do the same. Well I once again removed the map light and I believe that one wire was somehow shorting but I rearranged them and now everything works to include the map light (which comes on when the dome light comes on).

Now I am onto the door panels/cards.

I got the rears done today (still need the whisker installed and the window crank hole knocked out)

The door panels are all done, I installed the trunk divider (after putting on some sound deadener) and I got all of the inside trim painted.

I was able to get the rear window trim and sail panels in the car. I also added a 3rd brake light which I think will work out nice.

I also got some modern pedal covers, the gas pedal cover is from a modern Challenger but the brake and clutch covers are the brake covers from a Challenger, Charger or Jeep. I have the brake and clutch covers that you would get on/for a Challenger but they will not fit onto the old school pedals so I thought I'd try this. They are a bit big and I had to put some more roll in them to get them to slip over the existing 71 Charger pedals. Not sure if I am going to keep them or not.

I like the look of the pedal covers but I found them to be a bit slick especially when wet in my 09 challenger. The third brake light is a nice touch.

I have them in my 10 Challenger and don't have any complaints however in this case I am having to use an AT brake pedal cover which is larger than the manual pedal covers of either the originals or the modern cars. We will see how it works would once I am actually able to drive the car, it could be that they won't stay on or will move around too much.

I really like the 3rd brake light presentation and placement, that worked out however I had to get rid of the sticky tape that was on it originally as I did not think it would last and then that thing would be hanging down in the back window which would suck. I replaced it with some good 3M stuff so it should last.

WOW! I was looking at recent posts today, and this is all amazing! Thanks for sharing and glad the deer incident was not fatal for anyone (I guess those sound buzzers don't work?), but hope you are mended more soon. Your build looks a lot like mine ('71 SE with B5 in interior, engine bay, and trunk), and the things I have to put in it, only my pace is slower, and I am going to go with the original fuel tank and pump. Using AN6 lines sure would be a lot easier than the hard lines. Can't find the red and black ones on Tanks, so I will find something good. I went with LED in my tail lights and a Sequential Turn Signals kit for them. Happy to say that a lot of my engine bay will have a few Leanna pieces, and this post and the forum have helped me immensely...

Glad that I posted something that is interesting and/or helpful.

What do you mean you cannot find the red and black ones on Tanks? Do you mean the AN fittings? If so you can get them from many places to include Amazon (I would not recommend using those, I use Fragola mostly for AN). To be honest you can also use JIC fittings if needed.

I modified my tank because at the time there wasn't a good alternative. If Tanks would have offered one I would have went that way, I have a Tanks Inc. tank in my 70 challenger and had one in my 52 Dodge pickup Restomod as well.

Do you have a build thread on here? If so post a link.

Yes, very helpful and inspiring to get moving on my project! I meant the red and black fuel lines you got from the bargain page of Tanks, but AN hoses and fittings will do great (I'm currently running those on my '30 Ford), and thanks for the tip of using Fragola. When I get back in the workforce, I'll look into those!
I don't have a build thread since this has been a 10+ year project. Latest, K-frame is now on the stand! The 383 is in the black bag behind it...

Well I know how it can go, it seems like there is SO much to do, but I find that if I just do 1 thing on/for the build a day I feel better. Even if its organizing or cleaning.

As to the red and black lines, I would not recommend them, the pvc coating on them flakes off and they can be a pain to work with. I should have known that there was an issue since they were on sale. I still have them and they are working for now but I wouldn't cry if I had to replace them with steel or even NICOP.

To that end I make all of my own lines to include PS and brakes. I try not to do any steel braided lines really bc they suck to work with but I have done many of them. I line the nylon braided lines and push lock fittings although I do have a tool to assemble them which makes life MUCH easier.

I do a lot of electrical as well and have a wide array of connectors like weatherpack, Metripack, Packard 56, Deutsch, and I just ordered some Molex connectors which I will try today.
