'72 Charger project

You may need to try a different hood ( bulge or scooped) or a low profile air cleaner. Mine wouldn't fit under my hood either. Im also using rpm intake. My guess is go with a drop base air cleaner. Or change intake...

Or another option us to cut the heat riser off the bottom of the air cleaner and make it fit. But that depends on how bad u want to keep that dual snorkel on top. I thought about it, but can't bring myself to sacrifice my air cleaner that I just refinished. So on the shelf it goes. Maybe I'll get bored and go back to stock when I grow up, lol.

thanks for the info.... so what did you do to make it fit? I was hoping to use a stock style aircleaner since the car will be driven in cold weather...wanted to keep the heat tube for cold starts.

guess I might end up needing to make up a custom air cleaner

That looks like a high manfold, maybe swap to a lower dual plane, there are several out there.

Thanks Ron....I hope to get a couple drives in it period. It will be my sons DD....and I know it will be hard to get the keys from him once its moving:argue:

I imagine once its done, he will be more then happy to let you have the keys, Hard to say no to dad? Always was for me lol.. first day may be difficult but you really should be the one to do the test drive, don't ya think! ;) Fenders look good to, you do good work and i hope the hood deal works out, maybe a lower profile air cleaner if its enough and you can find one, ive seen it done before but so much depends on just how much room you may be lacking..

I cant complain Ron...he is a great kid. Very good at school, very little trouble and has a job. He's getting pretty excited and cant wait to see this thing move on its own power. On the hood clearance issue, I think we should be able to make something work. The factory air cleaner really has no drop to it....so we ordered a 2 inch drop base. The pic also had a 1/2 inch spacer under the carb, so that will be gone.

Sounds like a great kid Matt! I can imagine how excited hes getting, looking at the car there ill bet he will need to take that to school and show it off some.. Nothing like a Mopar rumbling into the parking lot of ? i wont even think what a school parking lot looks like compared to when i/we drove to school.. It sounds like you have the hood clearance under control.. good deal..

One step closer to making some noise...the radiator showed up today. We got a Champion...looks good. Fit good and the stock shroud fit with no issues. A couple minor tweaks to the upper mounting holes to center it top to bottom to fit the 19 inch 7 blade fan we picked up. Plan is to have it fired up this weekend....or sooner.

Envy bug comming to a school close to you..

If all gos well and you get the kinks worked out, a video would be great! either-or Good luck i can see, well imagine, the look your son will have :) Im afraid the kids at school will have a bit of a envy at the site and sound of this, i imagine there isint to many that would have one of these and a brand new look to it... We had our cars back in the school days but speaking of me only, i didn't have one that had the new car look as cool as a couple were.. thumbsup.gif

Oh Mattsinger, I am just as excited as you guys. I agree should have a video, would love to here it. Great looking car and what a job you guys did. Good luck and enjoy........:hello2::icon_fU:

Thanks guys.....I know its nicer than anything I had in Highschool. originally, we were just going to make the car mechanically sound, but then after looking it over good, realized that after one winter in Michigan, there probably wouldnt be much left...so we started sandblasting every bit of rust we could find. The pain job isnt the best....first I have ever tried, but the car is rust free and everything is sealed up now. The vinyl top is ordered, and we need to go through and figure out what weatherstrips we need to order.
I'll try for a video....see what happens.

Well, we got it started today. Everything went smooth after I realized I had the plug wires on in the reverse order..lol. Only took a second to figure that out. I'm not sure how to post a video, but here is a pic of us checking it out.

WAHOOOOOOOOOOO sounds like a mopar lol. That is great, sounds good, so what are you hope for HP numbers about. Thanks

Wow, Sounds great Matt!!! strong sounding engine there.

Thanks...no ideas on HP numbers...not too worried since it will be a driver. we have a couple minor issues....a small Power steering leak and the trans pan is leaking. Other than that, we are happy. Everything seemed to be fine. Cam break in went fine, changed the oil...now we just need to finish a little work on the drivers door and reassemble. Now if I just had a few more hours each day.....

Sweet looking car... I haven't figured out my hood clearance problem, just going try different ones till I find one that fits. I have a Eddy's rpm intake on mine. But I believe a holley street dominator intake would give same power with a shorter intake. But I don't want to give up the rpm either. lol

Sounds good guys. Can't wait to see it all assembled.:headbang:
