Heart of Dixie.....
In Nicks Garage latest vid, his bud seemingly over revved the 440 in his 66 Charger and broke the motor. In trying to understand the sequence of events, I am thinking, 1. Over revving led to the springs inability to close the valve, allowing it to be smacked by the piston. 2. This led to the retainer coming unsecured and the valve dropped down and smacked the piston again. 3. This broke/bent the valve face and allowed it to be hammered into the port sideways. 4. This , then, beat the piston deck until it crumbled. But, in noticing the valve retainer was broke almost in half, how did that happen.....was it possible that it was the first to break from over revving and that set up the sequence of destruction. As you can tell, I am no racer and have only grenaded one motor in my life....mine came apart in the bottom end first. thanks.....

Thanks for posting, I enjoy watching Nicks garage.
I will check it out!!

He must like the shirt he was wearing opening his mail at the end. Second time he wore it since the wife and i sent him that a few months back.

i think it is called coil bind when the rocker pushes the valve spring so far it binds on its self. if it is hyd, it very possible.

Guy never heard of a Rev limiter? Got a manual shift, buy a ignition system with one you if want to horse around.

Beautiful car, but He's got no teeth! ARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!

My own (similar story). Rebuilt small block 273. Knurled valve guides with the exception of replacing one exhaust valve guide. Clearance in replacement guide tight, but I thought in time it would "wear in" eventually.

Second day after motor fired up, I saw a cloud of steam out the exhaust and vehicle came to a stop-would not start.

What I found:
a) coolant in oil b) spark plug electrode smashed c) exhaust valve head broken off -smashed and loose in top of cylinder d) hole in piston e) cylinder cracked f) combustion chamber pretty beat up. Back to the drawing board.

So, I replied to Nick's video wanting to know what kind of pistons were in that engine, deck height
question, and asked if those were in fact 906 heads. You can look at the comments and see what kind
of B.S. answer he gave me. Do these guys think they're Robert DeNiro or what? everything is so
top secret to them and they don't want to give anything away. Kinda pisses me off. So long Nick!

Under what name ? I didn't see ZYZZYX anywhere.

KernDog, My YouTube name is GeneralElectricCNC. Yes, he's knowledgeable, he owns his own business, but won't answer
questions that help us viewers out. Tried the same thing with "Pete's Garage" and got about the same response. Oh well,
I like it here on FBBO where everyone tries to help one another, no snobs like on YouTube.

I know Nick for the past 40 years, and I can assure you that he is completely down to earth, I actually help him to get to all the questions but it ain't easy. Keep in mind he still has to work and put food on the table and business to run, Insensitive statements like yours are not called for. People are trying their best. Now that engine has TRW L2355f with Eagle H beam rods forged ctank, 509 cam and 452 heads ported about 10 years ago by Tom @ TKrace in Montreal, flowing 280 @ 500

I'm not trying to be insensitive, just trying to get some info from someone who has a pretty close
combo to what alot of us on this forum are running. I thank you for the piston info and just wish
I could have gotten the info in the beginning. I also asked for deck height and I can just guess that
it's supposed to be stock blueprint size. We all need a little help with our projects, and I guess I valued
Nick's opinion. He seems like a lucky guy who is having the time of his life working on all those muscle
cars and putting them on the dyno. Thanks again for the info!

Deck height is at Zero, Nick liked decking the blocks, and .039 head gasket, Although with these heads quench is non existant

So, I looked up the L2355F pistons which look like 440 Six Pak Pistons with double reliefs cut into them
and they look nothing like the pistons in the engine in the vid???

You're right My mistake, he used those L2355f on many builds in the past
I'll go there on Monday and verify
I just got off the phone with Nick and he told me they are MAHLE pistons on that build

O.K., Jeez, this is like pulling teeth! What number pistons??? PLEASE!
No, wait, Pretty Please with Sugar on it! Am I the only one reading these posts?
