I have a 06 r/t. Almost 180k on it. I really like the car a lot. They do have lots of issues with the suspension parts wearing out. I have done inner and outer tie road ends and lower control arms and ball joints. Right now there is something else going bad, just haven't dug into it yet.

What challenges would be faced in dropping a 383/440 into one, maybe also a 727 if bell housing presents a problem.

I would too, I found it intriguing also...

a lot of work to built it,
like the Charger nose & the shaker hood...

I don't have any room for anything unfortunately...

I've got an '05 with a 3.5L, it's got 230K miles on it and still runs great.
