Blade's Ego thread: Sculpture, Cars & Airplanes

ROFLMFAO! Yup 3350's...dats a few cubes times 4 Boss!....um...i was in the Left seat Bro....logged(i lost book) but PIC technically, guy in right seat followed through, in case we lost boost....i was sitting on pillows too....i was pint size into my teens. It was a 749 bought by Friends of My Dads out of Houston Hobby for a flying club from TWA's retirees that were at the old terminal @ Tucson International in 68 roughly. I was actually logged as part of the ferry ready crew and on the shakedown flight, after they were done pulling engines and dancing through systems checkouts, They told me to take us home....mains on the numbers Ski. Ever see a Pratt & Wittney 4360 in living color? 4 rows....as long as a living room couch....they were supposed to TBO @ 1400 hrs i think....remarkably they held together under military power for a 1000 hrs....4000hp dubble yikes, The B-36 Peacemaker had em, as well as the Hughes (HK-1 ?) "Goose"
Bro, it would be Great to meet You and give You the Grand Tour of the menagerie, Hopefully Pete will be here so You can meet Him too, He's usually south on weekends.....the Pancho GP is here and the Pancho GTO is just a couple miles away, although that shop is shut down on weekends....at any rate, i look forward to meeting You Boss..,.got a couple or so toys to see....Pete has a 61 Starfire convertible that i'm getting attached too...not at all my type of car..such a sled, but the trim is worthy of reverence..all those brushed stainless inserts....and the lines of the car nail Art-Deco. i'll PM you w ph # and address.

Greg Ducato, Thank You kindly for the chime....i'll be posting occassionally....My Grandfathers history in Cars and racing is worthy...i'm going to bring some of that into play here....more werx will come...i'm doing a commissioned piece right now.....Polished manzanita tree on polished aluminum, circular, domed base....actually an aluminum air cleaner cover...be done next week..hopefully pics week following. Be Happy Everybody....always Nice to hear from ALL....jimi

That 61 Starfire sounds SWEET Bladecutter!
Yup, give me some time...I'll mosey down there soon!

You have made some very nice pieces there Bladecutter. Thanks for sharing the pics of your wok here. Good luck with completing your mission to reach 100pcs. :headbang:

Dave....Thanks Man....Did i say, Thank you Dave ...some camraderie i feel...however that's supposed to be spelled. I don't have hardly any photographic record earlier than the 90's....i do have a lot of hard photos that aren't uploaded yet.....lot of work got away without being shot. There's something about fashioning things that have a chance @ longevity.....why i could never be a pot farmer....it is very hard work on a volume scale, very problem prone and then all that effort goes up in smoke..literally....nah, i smoke hella' and then try to make something, play some ragged edge guitar....equation werx well for me. I really don't have any templates....i don't do drawings...whether it's a car or a blade, whatever medium, i just start laying out tape and then i'm already in scale....i use the snot out of tape for all kinds of procedures.
i'll be posting now and then.....I just Love that "Little Pearl" ya'll building in the Delta there....Love the Delta Blues too.....jimi

kiwitgx.....And Thank You for the nod and Thanks for the Goal Blessing

Ski..ster....X-2....You mean the Bell?

You Guys Have really Made My Day! jimi

Dave...what You said 'testemonial to Legacy' reminds me of something tha Enzo the Dog sez in the Art of Racing in the Rain...it's His narrative, i love this:
"We Manifest That Which Is Before Us" Another is "The Car Goes Where the Eyes go......Never look at the Wall" Those metaphors work for me. Peace, Harmony,...hey..Love & Dreams...roc on james dean>

You have some serious talent. On the other hand, I am a hack. I am trying to slowly learn welding but I need a lot more time.

Having said that, there is great joy in creating something, be it art or functional. Even with my limited skills, when I make a fitting or a piece for my car, it feels great. Creating some of your pieces must give you great satisfaction - deservedly so.

Nice work!

Hawk

Hawk....Nice words Brother...i say Brother because We all are here in common cause, the Love of fast, precision and fawned over machinery...i fear the globalist movement is going to try to take this away from us....robot cars?!..i'll shoot sumpin'! That's as political as i dare get. My Dad always said, if You're going to do something, then TRY the best of Your ability, do it because You like doing it, not because of money....the work remains far longer than the money...and if it's half *** work, the smell of that will last even longer,......THAT is How You get better, making mistakes and learning what not to do. My Old Man...total perfectionist, one hell of a pilot.
Whatever limitation You feel You have, you set Your own margins and You will punch through and expand the ability, "We manifest that which Is Before Us".... for what You say about standing back and looking at something You know You worked hard on, at Your limit, THAT is a Very satisfying thing that noone can ever take away...i look back upon each one...they are all stories, journeys....like peeling back layers of an onion, and i marvel at trying to remind myself how i accomplished the journey....it's always a combination of focused direction & happenstance for me....God throwing His share in....which is a Very Big One. The Nod is Greatly appreciated Hawk.

To all the Wonderful Commentors, familiar and new...i got the warm & fuzzy feeling Thanks to Ya'll. I'd like to point to Coronet 340...His header carries some quotes. and one of the quotes is by Someone i admire intensely and two of my pieces are actually Homages to Him...Constantin Brancusi...the sculpture piced below is called "Brancusi" The quote that Coronet 340 promotes:
" Work Like a Slave, Command Like a King...and Create Like a God "....that's my man Bran....i gotta tell the story sometime about Him....incredible sculptor. But Thanks to Coronet 340, i discovered that quote.
The reason i stagger the sculpture photos with cars and airplanes is to mildly emphasize that at the end of the day, many, many of the moves are the same....the trades are my sculpting roots....My work, beyond the Tribute and dedication i assign to each one, all carries the dedication to GOD above all, and to the "Unsung Heroes of the Trades" The world is Full of artists in all walks of Life...a Guy who rebuilds antique aircraft shared a nice line with me one day...a customer commenting on His beautiful graphics and paint work on His Waco called the Guy an Artist, to which He replied, "thanks, but i'm no artist....an artist gets to follow His Own vision....i must adapt to the Customers vision." It is a very accurate analogy....makes the tradesman's job that much harder than that of the artist.
Damnit, i'm feelin' the Love and i ain't afraid to say it....Thanks for the goose bumps you Guys, gonna have to Hot rod my Dodge Fireball 22 ft Cls C so i can be almost official here...not a B-body tho....there is a 68 4 door Coro out there somewhere, waiting for me to cut and stitch.....right God? Gotta build one car for Me before i cak...hopefully some time left to drive it IMG_7667-3.jpg

Thanks Budnick, for sure. You close to IE? Have You scoped the 4 door Cuda thread? the newer one. Thas Some Work...i'm in awe of that project...eve if i didn't like it i would be in awe of it....the process is so tidy...but since i'm already on a trip about a 68 4 door Coro...the 'Cuda project is poetry for me. I already refer to it as "Little Pearl" Guru stuff Peace

Jimi, my first time here checking it out. I'm in awe, fantastic doesn't describe it. As soon as things slow I owe you some e-mails. Put in 17 hours today, shut the booth off at 12:30 this morning. Gotta catch up on lots of stuff. Maybe sleep too.

Jimi, you've blown me away with all of this stuff. Amazing! And it's so obvious that you're doing it for the enjoyment, not some dull job that's for sure. And yes, I've been into The Hip ever since their first EP back in '87. Speaking of Canadian bands, what do you think of Big Sugar?

Those are some great works of art with the prop blades. What's the biggest you had, anything like the 19' diameter B-36 stuff? :) I know you said you're not into drawing plans and stuff but I wondered if you had any sketches for preliminary ideas on the Coronet?

Keep it up man!

New Photos of "Bettie Frances Mangusta" 8MA-1148

Just got some more potos of My Old Goose...1982, right aftwer i sold it to my best Friend....i made a few major changes on her, most of which i did myself....i farmed some box tube triangulation better nose support. Headlights i did mysel...remember i was an impetuous kid that didn't have a whole lot of time under His belt..but i'd do it again w/o hesitation and this time a whole lot better...but that **** loks a whole lot better than those fifty pairs o f DOT mandated headlights that stare crosseyed at the ground...throw a bone where a bone should go...thing is they were unsathe my uplock for those cable operated abortions was not trustworthy...i had them collapse several times at just the wrong moment, pullin g...form follows function...they definitely functioned better like this, better spread on ground and see further(DOT is *** backwards) and the form...anybody that sez the OEM flipups look better just can't admit defeat.goose B.jpggoose C.jpggoose D.jpggoose E.jpggoose F.jpggoose G.jpg

Cool pics of that DeTomasso Mangusta!
Funny thing is: there have been a couple of Forum members here that have had Mangustas!

Thanks Photon...better to have loved & lost than to have never loved at all, right? still lingers in my hostrils...olive oil with low end thump. Bro's had that 8500 rpm Boss 302....supposedly w/ 235's on back, it was 29 mph for every 1000 rpm in top gear...i think ther's some exaggeration....i did a buck sixty in it one night...beautiful as the nose is, it lifts over a 100.....i didn't sustain the buck sixty for long...it was busy as hell keeping it pointed in the correct direction...they need dams, which destroy the look. The thing could be a complete stone and i'd still want it.....the pose....women just get silly around it....man i had a box that i threw all the different crap that they would leave in the car, underwear, hoisery, garters, lighters, ph numbers yata yata.

Ski ster Que Pasa Mano? Hey if You can dig those Guys up, i'd love to jaw with them. I got that problem handled, its all good...Life shall go on. Talk soon

Jimi,

That was one slick looking car ! It must have been a rocket. Also love the look of the split rear window like the 63 ( I think ) Vette had ! I bet that was one that you wish you never sold, right?

Good work blade and nice to see what other members are doing besides cars. I've been delving into wood working lately and getting a big kick out of it.

There was a reason for the split window. Cool cars for sure!
