I have the hissing noise too, had it from day one. Cooler installed.
How long ago did you purchase the box? Is the hissing sound coming from the Borgeson box or from the pump?I installed a cooler when I first did the install, and it has worked flawlessly. But, after about 3,000 miles, it has started to hiss.

Did you purchase it through Peter?Jan 2023.
Hard to know which one makes the sound, though my FF box had no hissing noise.
The box yes.Did you purchase it through Peter?
I heard he modifies the ones he sells.
Hi thanks for replying. Unfortunately not on road yet. But did check steering full L -R. Seems smooth, no binding, noise or locking. 2.1 turns left to right. I think I'm going to put shims , for Pease of mind .Adding shims lowers the pressure. Removing them increases it.
If the steering functions fine, the angle shouldn't be an issue. You could put spacers behind the mounting points of the box to square it up. Many others have done that very thing.
Hi thanks for info. Please let me know how you make out w/shims.I put one on my 68 charger no problem was off slightly. Installed one on my 70 Cuda looked similar to yours, was interfering with the cap on the coupler. Car is tore apart now but will be shimming it to get a little closer.
wow, that's with the Borgeson pump?I used the full Borgeson kit with their pump. I burned my hand on the pump and thought I brushed against a header tube. If I recall, the infrared gun indicated close to 240 degrees Fahrenheit. I got this cooler from Summit and machined a small bracket, currently the pump body shows 175 degrees on a warm day and a long drive.View attachment 1528058
Did you ever get your Borgeson box and pump sorted? I love the feel of the Borgeson box, until yesterday when it started acting up at low speeds after a 3hr drive.I know for a fact that the new box I just got in is mounted a tad sharper and closer to the firewall but mine aint that sharp and it also has a different type of brace than my old one has. My PS pump only has 1 shim in it and the first 500 miles it’s felt great and at idle setting still you could easily turn the steering wheel but now after I guess I broke it in I can no longer turn the wheel at idle. What a friggin pain in the ***. Now I’ll have to drain the dang oil and add more shims to get more pressure. Now I’m afraid when I add more shims this thing will start making all the miserable hissing sounds like my other one use to make. Right now this is one is pretty quiet but I’m afraid it will no longer be.
I emailed Peter Bergman this morning. He replied within 10 minutes and we had a nice back and forth conversation. He's saying my pump has failed and that internal clearances in this remanufactured pump can contribute to this. I've ran this pump for 7000 miles and with the Borgeson box maybe it couldn't handle it for long.Did you ever get your Borgeson box and pump sorted? I have new Borgeson box and a not so old Saginaw pump and reservoir installed in 2015 with only 1000 miles on it.
Also have PS pump cooler mounted under the battery tray.
Miles on the new Borgeson box is 400 miles with no issues until yesterday.
Using Bergman recommended Drive brand PS fluid.
No hissing or strange sounds.
Steering felt great and no low speed issues until yesterday after a 140 mile 3 hr highway drive at the off ramp. Low speed assist down to almost zero. Get on the throttle and steering back to normal. Slow down for a turn and zero assist again.
Got home and no leaks or loss of fluid anywhere.
Fluid got too hot. Is this also a sign that my pump is shot or should I just change the fluid?
Does the Bergman pump have anything special that makes it last longer? (I see another poster above that uses the Bergman PS pump and is observing very high pump temperatures...)
since installing the Borgeson, what's the longest amount of drive time you've done? Me zipping around town for 20 min blasts didn't do anything to the PS pump with my new Borgeson, but it seems the two runs of 3hr drives in the same day might have.Mine sometimes needs a bump to the throttle to get the steering assist to increase. Wider tires do require more assist so I merely figured that it was due to that. I have a 275 up front.
My pump is less than 3 years old but is just a NAPA parts store rebuild, certainly not a "blueprinted" unit by any stretch.
I've heard some say the old junkyard pumps are more reliable than the newer stuff.Zero issues my Borgeson box prob around 3k miles since installed. I do have a power steering cooler added, never felt the fluid get remotely hot. Also running junk yard power steering pump. 67 Belvedere
Many 60s Mopars came with the Federal or TRW pumps, this Dart at the junkyard did.I've heard some say the old junkyard pumps are more reliable than the newer stuff.
KD- pick n pull time. Did you see a pump on that recent junkyard dart?
