I’ve been meaning to get a thread started for this for a while and I can’t guarantee it will stay current at this point but here goes. In 2021 I finally found a car after years of planning and searching. Here it is, first day at it’s new home.
IMG_2153.jpegIMG_2151.jpegIt was kind of drivable, but it needed some work. It was hard to get it started but it ran like chit, the brakes worked until they didn’t and the tires tried to hold air but gave up after a couple of days. I had a build plan for the car before this was the one so instead of fixing the tired systems I started accumulating parts to get started on it.

After watching the local classifieds for months I located a big block, when I went to buy it I found the guy had a bunch of different engines and was in more of a hurry to get rid of them than he let on when first talking with him. I ended up with two 440’s and the 400 I went there for, plus two 727’s and a truck bed full of miscellaneous parts. I was so glad I rented a trailer instead of trying to muscle a big block into the back of my truck with a shell. One of the 440s was seized up and my plan was to get the crank out and machine it to fit the 400. After a little time with Kroil and turning the crank back and forth it started to loosen up, then I was able to disassemble it. Instead of junking the block I had the machine shop check it and found the pitting in the rusty cylinders would clean up at .020, so now I’m going to build the 440.

Nice looking Coronet. 500 in the front and R/T in the back...

Yeah, it’s a 500 obviously but someone in the car’s previous life put the R/T emblem on the trunk lid.

Nice ride there! I have two older siblings myself.

Great looking car! I'd leave the exterior as is. Big block swap is always necessary.

Love color and 500 Trim. Remove R/T Emblem.

In 2022, I got my engine back from the machine shop. It is a’67 440 .030 over with Wiseco flat top pistons at .000 in the hole and a stock steel crank. I bought the first set of heads I could get my hands on which were Edelbrock Performers with 84cc chambers. It has been assembled and ready to install for the last couple of weeks, hopefully going in this weekend.IMG_3380.jpegIMG_3378.jpeg

After some self inflicted obstacles and engine mounts/brackets that needed some work I finally got the engine installed. IMG_3400.jpegIMG_3403.jpegIMG_3404.jpegIMG_3405.jpeg

I hoped that the intake manifold was going to fit after having the block decked but it does not. I had the machine shop take .020 off both sides and tried but still need more, going to try to get it in soon enough to be able to try again today.IMG_3429.png
Left side is before, right side is after first try. Both are with bolts in the other side.

Looks like your ride is the same color my 70 Challenger was originally. Redid it in Sublime instead.

Nice Coronet. I really like the 500 trim and lower blackout.
See the dreaded intake not fitting problem.
On my decked 451 engine with B-1 B/S heads and M1 intake, I had to take 0.100" off both sides of the intake.

After two trips to the machine shop the intake finally fits, ended up removing .050 from each side.
