Maybe he was shooting for a petty number..... 43 for the win.
I'll get it there tonight when I have time to upload the "how too" on the decals. Fixing f'n yard equipment right now. My phone cam sure sucks with Yellow...

Naphtha wipe first, then 99% isopropyl alcohol so body paint is spotless.
20240408_114643.jpg

Same deal with my work surface, cleaned spotless.
20240408_122305.jpg

Headlight doors cut out and backing trimmed down.
20240408_124420.jpg

Trying to get them lined up and then a few tape location markers put on paint to float them back to the same location. Then nose wiped down with naphtha and alcohol
20240408_134853.jpg

Headlight doors first. Backer peeled and sprayed with soapy water.
20240408_135939.jpg

Smoothing it out and squeegying out the water.
20240408_140122.jpg

Outer decals next. Hate the white paper, as you can't see bubbles or wrinkles.
20240408_141316.jpg

All 4 pieces down. Figure about 2 hours before I try to peel the top paper.
20240408_143358.jpg

On to wing upright Birds. Took a lot of rubbing to get the clear placeholder to retain the letters, while carefully peeling the backer.
20240408_152327.jpg

Looks about right.

Drivers side down
20240408_153603.jpg

Starting to peel carrier paper but not quite ready yet., about an hour and a half after application.
20240408_155310.jpg

Peel and wipe carefully at the same time, about an hour and 50 minutes in.
20240408_155921.jpg

Success..
20240408_160704.jpg

Top 1/2 dry enough to peel. Wait another 30 minutes for the lower.
20240408_160834.jpg

Beep Beep.
20240408_163835.jpg

Before I start, remembered I poured the floor sloped out the doors. Determining how much block I need under the rear tires.
20240409_103819.jpg

Splitting the differences on the age old (30+ year) David Patik instructions and the latest from Mike Mancini. I always felt David's were wrong on the driver's side showing the first leg of the "h" flush with marker vs the second leg. Doing so puts the decal further back on the quarter than the passenger side.
20240409_110355.jpg

Playing and moving till happy and then mark the border with tape + alignment marks.
20240409_120026.jpg

Clean with naphtha and alcohol and let it gas off.

Decal face down and ready to peel.
20240409_125054.jpg

Spring clamps help immensely.
20240409_125226.jpg

Sprayed with soapy water, as well as the quarter panel.
20240409_125409.jpg

In place and just squeegied along the top to hold it at this point.
20240409_125550.jpg

Marker tape gone and all letters squeegied at least four times. 2 pieces of tape to hold the carrier paper down that wanted to roll up.
20240409_130245.jpg

Same deal over here and let them dry out for awhile.
20240409_132351.jpg

Tempting fate and putting the nose bird decal on top of the headlight decal.
20240409_133150.jpg

1 7/8" from R to edge of decal... so ~2" to edge of door.
20240409_133625.jpg

Squeegied out and wait for it to dry. The clear cover takes for ever as it doesn't absorb and breath like the paper.
20240409_133628.jpg

Peeling carefully while wiping after only 25 minutes.

Nerves about fried at this point, but not a single air bubble! And NO the car doesn't really look 10 different shades. My phone sucks on yellow it appears.
20240409_134724.jpg

Another down perfect with no bubbles.
20240409_135401.jpg

2.5 hours later a VERY careful peel and blot.
20240409_153043.jpg

Ain't dat purdy...
20240409_154458.jpg

If only I could bill my hours...

The font of the numbers and letters on the tag seem to match old and new.
My 70 Charger tag has larger size and different font.
Is this common with different assembly plants? I’m from St Louis and yours is Lynch Road, right?
It's still not perfect as a match, but I did make ECS print it two more times after the original that they sent me!!

I imagine every assembly plant's printer did different ****.. lol Even Lynch Road ones have some variances, as I'm sure there were many printers.

I'm willing to bet that the factory didn't spend that much care and attention when they were being squirted out back in the day.

Nice job on the decals and the write-up Wayne.

Wow, that’s tedious work. Excellent technique and results. Congratulations on a job well done.
