CAN Bus Interface Device ?

So I’m starting to get the wiring harness for the engine, transmission and body harness sorted out.

I ran across a weird one on the CBID as Mopar calls it which receives the speed signal from the transmission and inputs it to the CAN bus. The Dakota Digital speedometer picks it up from there then.

The MOPAR instructions say the CBID can be mounted anywhere but that it must “…have a view of the sky…”.

No problem but it’ll look a bit funny sitting up on the dash with a harness and connector.

Anyone understand why the device needs to “see the sky”? Will The Mopar gods be sending down messages from heaven or something? Maybe they’ll be uploading my driving data?

That is interesting. I have a Dakota Digital ECD200BT speedometer box in my 68 Charger.

I am using the CANBUS signals to trigger it (hardwired the ECD200BT into it).
It appears to work and is dead-on accurate.

Where can you buy that GPS device (got a link?).
I am currently having some issues getting my NAG1 transmission to shift properly using the Tone Ring and 2 ABS sensors.
Partly due to the location and tight-confines of my transmission crossmember.

If that query was directed at me, it came with a set of Speedhut gauges I bought, specifically for the GPS speedometer ('natch).

They do sell individual GPS antennas.

FYI, their stuff may or may not play nice with other manufacturers' parts so you'd obviously want to confirm that it would work with your current setup.
